Between your thoughts on Cole and now Springer, you need to just concentrate on the Yankees.

Anything can happen, but your thoughts on those two and their futures in Houston are definitely outliers.

Hey the narrative is set, the Astros aren't going to resign Cole, so why would they pay Springer 17-25 million he will probably seek over 4-6 years?

I can see the Astros sucking it up and signing Cole. They still have a prolonged window for titles. He will be your Ace cornerstone of the future. Where else are they going to get one?

They have Cole as a free agent this year, Springer is arbitration eligible next and a free agent in 2021, Correa a FA in 2022 so they going to have to pay someone eventually.

Cole is a logical choice because pitching is harder to replace than hitting imo

Could it be they put more value in Springer at what they would expect to pay him than the 10-13 million more Cole would cost for the same term?

I mean, if Morton was too much at 2 years for 17 per.....

If 17 million is too much then Springer is gone, that's probably what he will be looking for/get. Similar to Lorenzo Cain contract maybe 5 years 90-100.

I want to believe that Morton just hated living in Houston because not resigning him was a joke

Isn't Morton signed for 15 million not 17 as well?

Morton wanted out of Houston because his wife wouldn't shut up bitching about it. He was gone no matter what the offer was.

I didn’t pile on when management decided not to resign him but I’ll admit, it hurts seeing what he is doing this year. Especially knowing what kind of fits he gave the yanks who is likely to be your competition in the end

Really?

I had heard nothing about this and all his comments were regarding how much the 2017 team rejuvenated his love for the game...

I’m disappointed obviously that we don’t have Morton but I’m willing to wait till October till I definitively hate on the decision because he definitely wore down as the season went on

Astros TV reporter Julia Morales was going through the clubhouse doing quick interviews with players who had families on how well their wives handled things during the season.

Then she got to Morton.
“There’s nothing Charlie loves more than his wife, Cindy, and his (now four) children,” Morales said. “Charlie told me, ‘I was hoping to get a chance to talk about my wife, her birthday is coming up!’ Fifteen, 20 minutes went by as Charlie described how much he loved Cindy and those kiddos. I completely forgot we were in the close quarters of the visiting clubhouse as I fought back tears.”

The guy could live anywhere on the planet, and still could've been in Houston. I guess the light came on when he figured out how much money he would lose to DC,MD,DE,or PA in income tax.

From 2018

quote:

Athletic’s Jake Kaplan back in April that he is “not going to keep playing for a long time” while pondering the possibility of retirement following the current season. At the time, Morton listed numerous factors — his growing family, his health, the quality of his performance, a team’s proximity to his wife’s family in Delaware — as some of the numerous factors that would influence his decision.

Hello St Pete

I think it was just $$$ at the end of the day. Ray's offered that 3rd year and Astros didnt. End of story.
