Well in the end we still needed another Starter, and Luhnow decided the cheapest way out. If everything holds true to form for this season Peacock will have an extended period on IR, and they're unlikely to make a move, knowing that Valdez and James aren't the answer. It's all infuriating.

I feel sorry for whoever gets Boyd, having 3 years of control the Tigers want a lot. The rate he gives up home runs he wouldn't be a good fit in Minute Maid or Yankee Stadium.

I think it's also possible the failings of Whitley, Bukauskas, and Corbin were unforeseen complications when trying to replace him.

Relying on rookies to fill rotation spots isn't a plan, it's a wish. No excuse for starting the season with so little rotation depth.

Tdeucen - I would be pissed if the Astros traded a lot away for him. He has a track record: of suck. Teams should know better. Detroit I bet is desperate for someone to be stupid enough because I’m sure they are worried he will regress.

And yeah your next three advanced prospects flopping haven’t helped the pitching situation. Also what the frick happened to Rogelios ? I was thinking he stuck this year in the majors. Honorable mention to Francis Martes who fell from the clouds of Prospect heaven. I’m hoping maybe the time off with Tommy John gives him some perspective and maturity to come back. He is only 22 and as far as stuff went, he had it.

You totally avoided what I said.

No, 17 per is not too much for Springer.

But 27-30 for Cole over the same term?

Apples and oranges.

Cole isn't getting 27-30 million either, he will likely end up with a deal like Corbin.

It's more of a luxury than a necessary upgrade but I wouldn't mind trying to do something about catcher. Chirinos had exceeded our expectations until recently...I wonder if hes not a little banged up and his production is suffering for it.

Hes a 35 year old catcher and hes taken a beating behind the plate this year. Think about all the foul tips hes taken off the mask etc. Stassi isn't a legitimate platoon partner. His bat only warrants minimal playing time. I've had an eye on Seattle's Omar Narvaez.

Currently hitting .290 .363OBP 14HR 36RBI. Hes left handed to it makes for a little more natural platoon. With his bat, you could give Robbie a few more days off and still get offensive production.

Seattle traded Alex Colome to the White Sox this past off season for Narvaez. Hes making league minimum and isn't a free agent until 2023 so Seattle might ask a high price for him.

The organization is in a good spot but the future of catching doesn’t look real shiny.

I doubt that Seattle wants to strengthen the Astros lineup for that many controllable years without getting a massive return.

Springer will likely get 110 for 5 years, give or take some.

Unless Cole can show some playoff moxie like Verlander this postseason, the Astros are not going to approach market value for him, which will likely be 25+ at 4-6 years.

I think the Angels will pay him that, esp after losing Skaggs

All just guesses on my part

I was think 5 at 100 for Springer and something like 25 million a year for Cole, so like 6 years 150

If it comes down to a bidding war between us and the Angels, don’t let the door hit you in the arse Gerrit. Enjoy losing. You and Trout can get together and polish each other’s individual awards.

If Astros lose Cole and have nothing to replace him with.... Astros won't be doing much either

Next year's rotation currently looks Verlander, Peacock, McCullers Jr, Framber, Martin (when did he have TJ?) Or McHugh?

So yeah, we're on the same page.

You just think the Astros will do both, and I don't.

The Springer deal can get done yesterday, IMO.

I don't see Cole as a big game guy like Verlander, so I balk at that length for that much.

Even though Lunhow has said he doesn't want to pay, I think he know it is better for the Astros to remain competitive with a real shot at the WS and ends up paying. I don't think he will be a repeater so there will be some guys he lets go but he pays it to keep Cole.

The Astros are about to deal for another arm that will fill out next year's rotation, with emphasis on a guy that matches up well with the Yankees.

And that deal will likely include Tucker and one or two guys on the 40 man

If Luhnow and Crane had never followed through on the JV deal, I wouldn't be so confident, but they did, and I am.

I don't see that deal happening, the names available Greinke, Bumgarner, Stroman, Boyd, Wheeler.
As I said I don't really think Bauer or Thor get moved this year because of their asking price and how GM's value their own prospects now.

And Wheeler now on the DL

A top 10 in your organization talent doesn't equate to a Top 10 overall (well, maybe 3% of the time LOL)

I think with the Astros track record of number 1's and Tucker actually keeping pace with Yed in the minors, there will be some suitors

The prospect of a Verlander, #2, Cole playoff rotation while we have this year's window, then Verlander and #2 next year could be enough to get it done.

I lean to what Blum was saying yesterday. It’s tough to carry a high average during Dog days of summer for a catcher carrying a heavy playing time load

They have Cole as a free agent this year, Springer is arbitration eligible next and a free agent in 2021, Correa a FA in 2022 so they going to have to pay someone eventually.

Yankees haven't even won a World Series after buying this years team and you're already planning on the teams your gonna buy in 2020, 2021, and 2022. This is why people hate the Yankees.
