Official word so far on Stinky is "lower leg discomfort" because of course it is.

Dusty did say it wasn't as bad as it looked.

quote:

“He’s probably doing better than it looked like on the mound,” manager Dusty Baker said.

Take that for what it's worth... which is nothing.

Need some innings from Urkel tonight, but he should be plenty rested after getting rain delayed 3 innings in to his last start.

Purely an interesting fact, our team BABIP is horrific. 4th worst in the majors at .259

Kinda goes with it, we’re 4th in hard hit percentage at 33%

A bit unlucky this year, hopefully it’ll average out

Bregs is hitting .183 since April 25th. Truly awful.

Yet Gurriel has been scrutinized and been a better defender, working for peanuts compared to Bregman. LOL

Look, they are all gonna go through stretches where they struggle. Tuve started the season in one. Tucker usually gets his out of the way the whole month of April. Yed has periods he chases and loses his discipline.

Truth is if we could get any player besides Brantley to be consistently good as much as Maldonado and Castro are consistently bad, we would win so often we’d have nothing to complain about.

I'll be honest, I was scrutinizing Yuli a week or so ago when discussing trade targets, but he seemingly found a little youth serum.

Bregman needs to get his shite together in a hurry.

The way I see it/saw it, Yuli has earned the benefit of the doubt on many occasions over a 5 year stretch.

Guy comes in to camp in great shape after leading the AL in BA and winning a Gold Glove

Bregman got fat, lost mobility, recurring injuries, and lost production on both sides of the ball since his MVP run.

Yuli struggled from the start. Bregman had a decent start but has cratered. Yuli also has a few years of age on Bregman so that’s probably why the eyes were more on him. But Yuli seems to have turned the corner. Bregman needs to get his shite together.

And I don’t want to hear more about his Breggy Bombs, horse racing interests or any other off-field stuff. Get in shape, get healthy and concentrate on baseball.

Bregman needs to get it together. Too much invested in him for him to stink it up.

Yuli is at least 37 going on 38 with known back issues so there is understandable concern.

Bregman actually started the regular season well, unlike Yuli.

But make no mistake about it, Fatty's arse is about to be in tJackpot.

Bregman’s struggles are puzzling to me. He’s walking more than striking out, he’s in a lot of plus counts, he’s just not barreling balls up.

Last few games he’s been hyper aggressive and trying to attack a fastball early because he’s probably not trusting himself and still popping everything up. He’s a very mechanical, detailed hitter with a bit of a complicated swing. He’s too good and too much of a student of hitting to not correct it, I think, but it’s bizarre how he’s making outs (lazy pop ups)

Biggest thing for him may be to change approach. He’s admitted he looks middle in because he has short arms and those are the pitches he can do damage on. Pitchers have probably adjusted and are living on the outer third and further away and he’s unable to get the barrel there. Might have to sacrifice slug for a bit and pull a Yuli and spray liners to right to get them more middle-in

That's the heart of the problem there, Ryno

Compensation

Yuli has been paid accordingly for his skills, with the understanding that he could fall off a cliff

And he has done nothing but surpass expectations, and everyone has him under the microscope

Bregman somehow avoided it. And FTR, I know he'll get it together, but it bothers me that he picks and chooses his approach at the plate based on his desires over the teams needs

Yuli is a creature of physical ability that just reacts, whereas Bregman has a mental approach. Worst thing that can happen to him is to be successful pulling FBs on the outside of the plate

I think Bregs is still caught in using his 2019 swing with the juiced balls.

His average launch angle this year is 24.5, his previous high was 2019 and 19.6.

Wild thing is, his barrel % is career high of 8.7 (previous was 7.4 in 2018)

Hard hit is just below career average

Fly ball% is way up to 54% (previous high was 45.9 in 2019)

Line drives & groundballs are almost career lows

Just a weird all around batting profile, he needs to get back to lining the ball and forget about HRs

Yea just dug a little into his baseball savant page, and it's so weird.

He's crushing breaking balls and getting abused by fastballs, mostly sinkers, which makes perfect sense with what you laid out. He's trying to lift balls that are down in the zone.

Good analysis baw. That's it for sure. He cant survive hitting high fly balls with the current baseball used by MLB.

Bregman used to be the same kind of contact hitter with great recognition and reflexes. His chase for power was fine until this year with the baseballs now deadened. He needs to recall his old LSU cage work and become that hitter again, at least until the assholes running MLB find a happy medium with how the ball will be allowed to carry.

This has been Bregman’s slump characteristic since he was at LSU.
