That fact that shitty AJ Griffin is dominating us speaks to how awful this team is. I mean all he does is alternate between the curveball and an 88 mph fastball and we're not hammering him. Beyond that, he's got 6Ks in 6 innings

I am just in disagreement with the philosophy. I don't care what the sabermetrics say...when you put the ball in play more, good things tend to happen.
HR, K, K, K, K, K, K, K, HR is hot and cold. Hard to be consistent. Look at the KC Royals and SF Giants. They don't win WS titles that way.

Fangraphs has stats on "high leverage" situations. The Astros batting average on balls in play in high leverage situations is .060

It's not a philosophy. It's the stopgap players* still around who helped this team win ahead of schedule. The up-and-coming top prospects are not all-or-nothing guys. At this rate, we will see them soon.
* Plus the awful Gomez trade (even getting Fiers doesn't make it good).

That's just bad luck. But when you let fricking AJ Griffin K 6 people with an 88 mph fastball (he isn't Greg Maddux), then it means your team is not putting the ball in play. A team of .240-.250 hitters each with 25+ HRS has never won the world series and never will.

To be fair, Keuchel's pitching style won't allow him to stay elite for long. He can have a Mark Buehrle type career which is pretty damn awesome.
