How long till Pressly hits the portal?

hopefully never, Pressly is a much more mentally tough pitcher than Hader and should still be the 9th inning pitcher. See playoff performances for proof.

I hate this deal but like Hader, $95 million for a guy who is one year removed from a complete meltdown season. Hopefully they trot him out there for 7th and 8th.

On principle I hate paying relievers like this. But if the idea is go for it for the next year or two and the Astros (and this deal) will likely be bad for the three after it then I guess I can talk myself into it. Hader is pretty insane but relievers are relievers

Whitley makes his debut this year, right? Out of the bullpen?

If he's healthy...and a real person.

I agree with this, and everything else you said. Reliever prices are insane. But Hader has a great track record. More defensible than giving Montero 3 years last offseason.

Crane overspends on players he doesn't need to overspend on.

Read yesterday that one team reported that Hader had the cleanest medicals they had ever seen.

Gotta be the best backend of the bullpen in baseball

Useless signing if they aren't going to address the gaping holes in the rotation. Gotta have elite bullpen to come in and hold the deficit to 4 runs so the good guys have a chance to mount a comeback.

As much as we joke about it Crane isn't cheap, he's staying under the tax so that when he does decide to make a splash he isn't a repeat offender. They'll easily get back under after Bregs leaves.

Don’t want to get caught in a deal where he’s paying half a billion dollars on a player that hasn’t played 140 games in 6 years. Or Carlos Lee..

Sure Jan. Just a little PR leak and when he signs somewhere else, Crane can cling to well we really tried but he ended up just outside of what we were willing to pay. Darnit!

Crane is not cheap. Avoiding the tax is/was about draft/prospect cost. If he had stood by his man, Darth Ludlow, the farm would be in better shape.

I've been critical of Crane for not opening the checkbook, but I love this move. This move is made with the playoffs in mind. The pen is nasty, as in the Nasty Boys for us old folks.

With LM(T)J and Garcia expected back, hopefully there's no need for more relief pitching.
