As far as I'm concerned, left field can be a revolving door of Mike, Yuli and Yed. Why not let Brantley get 1B reps in spring so he can play there some and flip with Yuli to take wear-and-tear off of both older bodies?

Plus, it would allow for more flexibility if one of them is hurt.

Outside of a couple of Altuve underthrows vs the Rays, I think Yuli is maybe the most underrated fielder in baseball

I have no idea what Brantley's abilities at first are or would be

Has he ever played there?

I can’t see Brantley at 1B. He and new knees Yed hopefully can split time between LF and DH. Hopefully a 70/30 split ?

It's been discussed since his Cleveland days that he could end up playing some first base, and he's been open to it. Give it an extended try in spring training. Can't hurt.

I'm not saying Yuli isn't the top choice there. Just looking for more flexibility over 162 games.

Yeah, something like that

I can't see Brantley taking a 1 yr oversized contract in lieu of a guaranteed, reasonable 2 or 3 year deal

2 being best for the Astros due to health concerns

Weird. I figured they would take that $10M option for a guy as good as he has been.

The signs are coming out now. The budget crunch in baseball is going to hit the players right between the eyes.

As predicted

Covid forced leverage

Gonna be the most boring Winter Meetings ever, if they even have them

Yes please. I can't imagine 1 year/$10M goes unclaimed on the Waiver wire. I can't remember if the waiver process at this point includes all teams or if it works like other waiver claims where the teams in the releasing teams league has priority.

If its all teams based on record, were 16th in line. If AL gets first priority we're behind the Rangers, Tigers, Orioles, Royals, Angels and Mariners. Some of those teams are rebuilding and shedding payroll but it honestly wouldn't he a bad play to snag hand with the intent of trading him.

Idk, I could see him jumping on that. If he believes he'll continue to play well and that things will be back to normal by next offseason, it could be the way to make the most money over the next 3-4 years.

Brantley/Yed in left and Tucker in right is not ideal defensively though. If they go this route they need to get a premium glove in CF.

Yeah, the writing is on the wall that teams are going to be cheap this off-season because of all the lost revenue.

$18.9M is a nice 1-year deal, then get one final payday afterward.

Who would bring the most value to replace Springer?

Jackie Bradley
Profar
Marisnick

Not much offensive options there but Bradley and Marisnick would be obviously great D. If Straw would start in CF, they might as well re-sign Jake..much better D, a little better bat..great speed as well like Straw.

If both Springer and Brantley are gone give me Profar and Bradley ideally. If just Springer is leaving then sign Bradley. Straw needs to be nothing more than a 4th OF.

Bradley would be my first choice, he was actually ok on offense this year.

I'd love to have Jake's D (hehe) in CF. Maldy/Marisnick at the bottom of the order would be hard to watch sometimes, but the top 7 (with Brantley) would hit enough to cover it.

Do you even consider going after Cespedes or Puig?

They are total wildcards. I wouldn’t want to have to rely on them honestly. If it’s a super cheap flyer behind other moves sure

I'd roll the dice with Profar because he would still have useful utility value if CF didn't work out. Bradley's bat is just so bad I'd rather have Jake back for a fraction of the cost over him.

Adam Eaton's option got declined, he was awful this year but looking at his career at a whole he seems like he'd be a good fit.

Basically a better Josh Reddick, you can slide him in RF and Tucker to LF. No clue what we do in center though.

Profar is interesting because he doesn't strikeout at all, I do think this past year offensively is an anomaly for him, but I'd think I'd hold my nose and sign a .250 hitter that can run the ball out of the park 20 times and strikes out very little.
