Miley most of all. He threw 87 pitches... was pretty solid.

I didn’t see today but what I’ve seen so far this spring has me optimistic. Should be adequate replacement for keuchel of last year/2016. Early season 2017 and 2015 Dallas had absolutely crazy movement and lived at the bottom corners. My personal opinion is that neck injury we will never know the full extent and he may never have the full dexterity that he used to have. Or maybe he goes back to Cy young form who knows

Alex Bergman’s contract extension with the Houston Astros will begin next year and pay him $100M over five years, sources tell ESPN — $11M a year for the first three, $28.5M for final two and a $10M signing bonus. Deal also includes a limited no-trade clause: 10 teams in 2023-24.

Still leaves some flexibility in the next 3 years.

Pretty smart move there.

Preparing for another extension that is front loaded?

Baseball contracts can't be front or backloaded in order to lower the luxury tax his for certain years. The luxury tax hit for baseball contracts is based on the contract's AAV (Average Annual Value) or the average annual salary of the deal. For example, although Altuve's salary is $29,000,000 this year, his luxury tax hit is only $23,357,143 because the first 2 years of his deal were only $9,500,000 per year. The whole contract was for $163,500,000 for 7 years which is an average of $23,357,143.

Bregman's luxury tax impact starting in 2020 will be $18,000,000 ($90,000,000/5)

I’m not talking about luxury tax purposes, I never expect them to get close to that threshold to be honest.

Just frees up some payroll money being 11 million for the first 3 years

Gotcha. They aren't that far way from the luxury tax threshold now. Roughly $22M left to work with. Maybe saving that for a big trade deadline addition.

Yordan Alvarez has been scratched from the Astros' lineup. The Astros say he did not make the trip to Lakeland but, according to a spokesman, "it is not related to injury or disciplinary reasons."

Possible trade?

If we’re being honest, I’d rather Bauer

Same but Kluber is the one they'd deal.

Also, Whitley will make his MMP debut in Mpndays exhibition.

Haven’t been able to TD as much lately so I wasn’t around for the dynamite discussion following the extension. Only thing missing was this pic...

Not happening. They can't have 4 players making 20 plus million. Cole and JV will get damn near Kershaw money.

Apparently we are working hard to extend BOTH JV and Cole before the season starts.

Would be glorious... but I have a hard time believing that Cole will forgo the open market.
