They need to bring back Dallas this year maybe 3 years 60-70 million with an option for a 4th year for 15 million

He’s on a downward trend and has been since his Cy Young year. 3 years is too many.

I think they make a run at Cole and probably re-sign him.

Seriously I'm curious what they do. I think they let Verlander walk and sign Cole.

I've got the Yankees signing Cole. Remember Cashman drafted him before he went to UCLA and they were trying to trade for him last year before the Astros got him.

Sev is cheaply controlled for a few more years, Paxton is still in arbitration, CC is retiring, Tanaka has 2 years remaining. Going after Cole gives them a few years of..

Severino
Paxton
Cole
Tanaka
Happ

I can't see the Yanks being outbid for Cole. Verlander is a must keep but if he gets to free agency, I'm afraid he'll be headed to the Dodgers to close out his career. He and Upton already live in L.A. Plus they have the kid now.

Well, Altuve has his long term deal, Bregman is many years away and Whitley/Martin/Bukake/several other pitching prospects will be key rotation pieces or trade chips.

As for the others, I don't think George gets a crippling long term deal because his age at the time will work against him while I don't think Correa resigns (as in, he gets a Machado deal somewhere else).

I don't see the Yankees signing Cole, mainly because they have Severino, will resign Paxton, gave Tanaka, and I like Montgomery. They could make the move but they avoided Corbin and Dallas this offseason. I would think they go after Wheeler of Bumgarner before Cole.

Philly is ready to write some more checks. Now they may have visions of Trout dancing in their heads but Cole makes more sense for them.

Philly will depend on their pitching, they have some talent in Nola, Arrieta, Eflin, Eickoff, Pivetta, and Velasquez

Yeah, they will give Eflin, Eickoff, Pivetta and Velasquez the chance this year but if they don't get a TOR arm out of at least one of them, I bet the Phils will be looking for a co-ace to pair with Nola next offseason.

Here's why it makes some sense to me. Sev is locked up through 2022 and has a $15 million club option for 2023. That's pennies for an ace. Tanaka is a free agent after 2020. Paxton will be pretty affordable through arbitration until his free agency after 2021. I wouldn't say it's a given that Paxton gets signed to a long term pricey contract. He still hasn't proven he can stay healthy. Last year was his career high in innings at 160.

I think the relative cheapness of potential aces in Severino and Paxton gives the Yankees some freedom to splurge and add a high dollar guy like Cole because Tanaka would be coming off the books after 1 season with Cole.

I think the Yankees are banking on Loaisiga, Abreu, Acevedo, German, Cessa, Adams, etc stepping up this year

You guys think DK would take a one year deal for $10M if he’s not signed by the middle of this month?

I think he has offers better than that currently

Nah, I'm sure he could get 1 year 20 million if he wanted. Seems his issue is he wants security at 15+ million

From the Reds? He’s not going to get the big deal that he thought he would. He could take a one year deal from us, bet on himself to have a great year, then hit FA next year with improved offers. Or he could toil away in Cincinnati for 3-4 years for considerably less than he wants with little chance to win and less chance of ever getting a truly big deal.

If he accepts a 1 year deal it won't be for 10 million

I agree, I was really just throwing a number out there come desperation time. If I’m the Astros, though, I don’t give him over $15M.

Yeah, I think Astros hang on to JV

They want a playoff arm that’s reliable

I can’t see them going long term with Cole

1 year 20 million with options for 15 after could get him signed. Say 3 years 50 million with a 4th year at 15 if he hits certain incentives

I don’t even want 2/30, w player option on a third year with Keuchel

I suspect his best offer might be 3/45 with anyone

I'd expect his best offer is 3 years but he wants 5+ and at least 15 per
