I'm half expecting that Bastard to turn it on this year and pitch like a number one pick. Everyone has always said the stuff is there, the results aren't. Watch him wreck AAA and get called up and pitch really well.

If Appel turns into resembling a #1 then I will become a Sox fan....

I really am expecting it to happen.

Oh and Ryno will claim that we never should of traded him and that he said that all along.

I have no problem getting rid of appel. I always thought he was the wrong pick...not his fault but he needed to move on. He may turn into to something and he may not. He was a four year college guy and already had 3 seasons in the minors and wasn't likely to be in Houston this year.

If Giles can be who we all think he can it won't matter.

I was hesitant on trading him although I really wanted Giles. Like I said, if you read scouting reports on Appel the stuff is there so the results are kind of a mystery. Is he a tweak or two away from being the guy he was expected to be? That's yet to be seen. That was the reason I hadn't given up on him even though he was a huge disappointment. I still thing he may end up being a middle rotation guy.

I dunno. I remember seeing a Fangraphs article that tried to nail down 20 or so close comps based on a filter on stats in the high minors and guys who were in BA's Top 100 prospects. The best case comparison by far was Arrieta. Then there were a few other guys (Wade Miller was one I think) who became decent mid rotation types then there were a bunch of busts.

I actually think Appel could profile well as a reliever since he could work on mastering one off speed pitch and could really harness his arm

It was a great deal for Philly though for sure

Yall see Callis put out his Astros top 30 prospect list? The pitchers are very interesting.

Paulino 7
Musgrove 8

Anybody think that Marisnick could have a good enough spring to go into the season leading off?

I don't know about leadoff, but I'm pulling hard for him to take a big leap forward at the plate this season.

I was told at a social gathering that had someone associated with the club a few months ago that the Astros front office asked Marisnick to shorten his swing and focus on contact and sacrifice power. I know that isn't earth-shattering news... but it is interesting to see him in the lead-off spot today.

That said, I think having Marisnick, Springer, Tucker in the top 3 positions is more of a plan to get them 2 at bats early in the game and then let others rotate in... the faster they get the 2 at-bats, the faster they can sit down for the day.
