I get what you're saying... but let's be real.

Who would you rather have coming in to close Game 7: In his prime Pressley OR In his prime Billy Wagner? or Rivera? or Hader?

He is effective and affective, yes. But man, when he is "off", it is disaster.

I’ll take Pressly over Hader all day. Hader imploded for like several months straight

The other two are hall of famers

In Wagner’s case damn close but you know what I mean

So we got here a different route but we're in the same place as 2019, coming home 3-2 with 2 chances. Let's hope lessons have been learned.

fricking Howard Kendrick. I'm not calling him Howie. We're not boys.

I think tomorrow is another really tight game like last night. Wheeler is a notch above Nola as far as ability and stuff and I have a hard time seeing him struggle again. I like our chances in those types of games though

In this series, with current Hader vs current Pressley, yes. I want Pressley.

But each of those guys in their prime -- Pressley is very distant behind the other 'elite' guys.

Right after we gave him shite in the regular season he went on a 30+ batter perfect streak.

Everyone would love to see a few less walks, but I'm not even mad about the one to Harper last night and the ump didn't help Pressly out at all.

He's a top 10 closer in baseball currently without a doubt. Maybe top 5.

ETA: The only two guys you take over him right now without thinking twice are Emmanuel Clase and Edwin Diaz. Maybe Jordan Romano, that's a close one. You might look at Daniel Bard and that nice 1.79 ERA, but he gave up 25 walks in 60.1 IP. Jansen, Hendricks, and Hader all are prone to giving up homers. Pressly gave up 4, those guys were all at 7 or 8, plus Hader had stretches where he was downright terrible and Jansen's best days are behind him.

Hader is 28. He’s in his prime and he just posted a 5+ ERA over the course of an entire year. You talk about when Pressly is “off” it’s a disaster, Hader just posted an entire regular season of being “off”. Pressly may struggle in specific outings but he’s shown a great ability to course correct and not let it carry over to the next outing which is huge for a backend reliever

Come on Shane, his age isn't what I'm talking about, and you know it. Hader had 2 or 3 seasons that rival any other closer's ability to dominate in the history of elite closers.

Wagner and Riveria had a run that was the same. Has Pressley ever had 2 or 3 seasons that when he entered the game every single time, everyone in the park and watching on TV said, "Game over"? Yes, his stretch, after he was sent the bag of dicks earlier this season gave us a taste of "game over" feelings. But deep down, we all have that queasy feeling of "is this the meltdown game?"

All I was trying to say is, that's the elite level I want from the closer. "Game over".

Abreu will be that guy. Hell, he already is that guy he just doesn't get to close.

Abreu gives me more a queasy feeling of "is this the meltdown game?" than Pressly.

Abreu also has the ability to come in and overpower everyone he faces.

Well yeah Pressly isn’t a hall of famer like Rivera or Wagner. If that’s your bar you’re going to be disappointed in almost every case. He’s a top 5 closer in MLB though and way more consistent than most. He’s been excellent for most of this season as well
