Reddick would likely outproduce Straw, just not for Straw dollars

Im only referencing Straw in relation to being the whipping boy

Former Astros front office analyst Kevin Goldstein today says this season for Straw...

".350 OBP VERY low power, really good defense. 1.5-2 win player.

That would be much better than Reddick was for the price over the past 3 years and playing a more important position.

Golstein also thinks Correa signs elsewhere.

Seems like a best case outcome IMO. I hope that’s what we get

Yeah, sign me up for that on Straw.

I also say again that not signing Correa is fine as long as money is spent to replace the bat at SS/3B, 1B or CF.

Fangraphs

Goldstein’s work was so highly regarded that he eventually left Baseball Prospectus to work for the Houston Astros as the team’s pro scouting coordinator. In eight years, his role in the organization grew as he was promoted to director of pro scouting, and eventually became a special assistant to the general manager, focusing on player personnel with an emphasis on using data and video to evaluate talent. He had a voice in decisions on drafting and trades, even participating in negotiations.

Click and Goldstein did not get along.

Sign Correa for $250-$300 million or sign a Bryant or Rizzo for less than $200 million. I'd rather have Correa but for the price you might be able to replicate the production without financial hampering the team long term.

That how I see it. I mean, if they like a cost controlled Jeremy Pena to play SS for years to come, it makes a lot of sense to go that route. Plus, someone like Rizzo would get a shorter term contract because of his age, giving you even more salary flexibility with less potential risk long term.

Yeah and if you remember from the scandal the guy who sent the email suggesting using cameras to look at signs in 2017, that was him. He’s kind of given a half assed answer claiming he didn’t want it to be used in game like it was, he gets a lot of hate on there though from the readers which is always enjoyable.

His answers to Astros related questions on the chats are always interesting because of how familiar he is with the roster

Sounds like I would want him working for my team, so sorta bothersome that he and Click couldn’t get along

If this was a year ago, I’d be on the “don’t pay stupid money for him” train. But he really won me over with his leadership and post season play last year. With Springer gone, that is more important than ever.

He just has a fire that Altuve doesn’t have (vocally that is) and actually backs up his shite talk (unlike Bregs). Big fan of his defense too.

And he actually has expressed a strong desire to return. Was disappointed that we didn’t get that from George.

Greedy. So greedy. He could be stuck in the poor house with $120 million like Correa.

BTW, Steve Cishek signed with the Angels so that decision will likely haunt us at some point.

Is this goober seriously about to go into a contract year with the mets? Does he not understand its the fricking mets? Like that whole organization is just one giant cemetery built on an Indian burial ground

I would not be fricking around only to find out whatever kind of bizarre shenanigans that awaits him over the next 9 months
