he took a team built around one all star and went head to head with a team of 4 all stars. Only untimely playoff injuries stopped Morey from winning a title with HOU.

He’s not overrated. He changed the way every team in the NBA plays basketball. Most people credit Steph Curry with the increase in the 3 point shot. But in reality it was Daryl Morey who every team tried to copy with increasing the volume of 3s.

Increased 3s, more free throws, shooting less midrange, positionless basketball, small ball lineups, etc were all taken from Morey. Whether you like that style or not, his impact on the game has been immense.

It’s hard to win in the NBA even when you are on the cutting edge.

He's the classic guy who was on the cutting edge, everyone else adapted and adopted, and he just never got back ahead of the pack.

A classic soccer example is Jose Mourinho, in comparison with a Pep who just keeps being the innovator and is constantly adapting and trying new things.

Chris Paul couldn’t carry that team by himself with all the dead weight

I've heard him talk about it and it was built on two simple revelations: That making more than a third of three point shots beats making half of twos and that the defense doesn't grab as many long rebounds from missed threes as people thought.

Embiid and PG contracts were too much to overcome. Two of the worst deals in history that will haunt the franchise for several more years.

His problem was he star hunted to the extreme and his teams couldn’t beat the healthier teams when one of them inevitably was hurt. Still tho he changed the game more than anyone in the last two decades and has one of the best all time win% for a GM. But I don’t think he gets another shot at it.

Thing with Embiid is if you are PHI you can't trade him because of the "what if". You almost certainly get nowhere near a decent return because the buying team is underpaying because of the injuries.
