No other QB before Brady got the opportunity to play flag football into their 40s either. Fleeting arm strength was never the older QBs retired, the pummeling they took took them out first. Brady took hits like Bradshaw did he doesn't play past 32.
I’ll ask again

so they changed the rules after he already had 3 super bowls and an mvp season?

Are you saying rule changes didn't extend Brady's career?

They did. I don’t deny that. But let’s not pretend tom Brady didn’t play in the early 00s when people were still taking peoples heads off. In 07 you’d still get decapitated over the middle and Brady set records that season.

Hell the dude literally had a season ending injury and came right back out without missing a beat. That in and of itself should show you the guy would’ve been durable regardless the era he was in. Maybe not Super Bowl in his 40s durable but he would’ve lasted well into his 30s in any era imo.

Good post. I had some long and back and forth with some goofball on YouTube that was adamant that Marino never had enough talent to win. Duper and Clayton were very good WR's for several years. Just because they aren't in the HOF, doesn't mean they couldn't come up big. And he had several dud performances in the playoffs against teams he should have beat.

Well Toms head coach said the best QB he ever saw was Jones. But what does he know.

Namath didn’t have a great
arm and I believe he threw more pics than touchdowns. What Namath did have, like Marino, was an unbelievable quick release.

More talented doesn’t guarantee you’re a better player

Marino played in a time where defenses were allowed to be defenses and tee off the QBs and WRs

I’ll keep going back to the Montana comeback against the Eagle in 1990 I believe, where he was sacked 9 times and took a beating we’ll never see again. That was one of the most incredible performances we’ll ever see from a QB.

No one in the history of the sport threw the ball better than Marino. I don’t think that makes him the best, but his lack of a Super Bowl title overshadows how great he was.

The spiral or accuracy?

The worst I remember was Aikman getting killed by Philadelphia in 1990...he sacked 11 times and under constant pressure

Line them up side by side in their primes, watch them throw and you never look at Brady twice.

I mean, yeah...

That's why Marino was taken in the first round and Brady in the sixth. I think what is so remarkable about Brady's story is the fact that he was so unremarkable when he came into the league and retired with just about every career record a QB can have.

They still hit pretty damn hard in the the league in 2001. In fact, the whole reason why Brady started was because the man in front of him got hit so hard he almost died from internal bleeding.

Brady had the #1 talent for a QB which is processing info quickly and correctly

Arm talent wise, he’s correct.

So he’s a better thrower, not a better Quarterback
