I read this many years ago.

They did a very extensive accident report. They studied every nut and bolt on that car. They did a recreation as close to exact as possible.

Perhaps the most studied and documented automobile crash in history.

This is literally a book on the crash. You're not going to read it while on lunch break.

WARNING: PDF file and a very large one. 324 pages with hundreds of pictures. A few pictures of the car's interior are graphic.

A very sad day for me. I watched the race and saw that Dale hit the wall at a weird angle. It easy head on so I wasn't worried to much. The NBA all star game came on next and I watched them say Dale died. Tough day for alot of people.

I watched the race and ,honestly, didn't think it was THAT bad of a crash. I went to my parents to visit and saw the news that he had died. Shocked would be an understatement.

Over the years I've heard / read many medical professionals speculate on what Kenny Schrader saw when he lowered Dale's net. It's horrifying.

They all pretty much say that Dale was already dead and his eyes were open with blood and other liquids pouring from his ears, nose, eyes and mouth.

Only time I’ve ever cried from an athlete dying. I was 10 at the time.

My dad cried too and he was not a Sr. fan as a racer.

I was at an XFL game in Birmingham when it happened. After the game, the parking lot was buzzing with the news. It was surreal - complete strangers going up to each other asking if they had heard the news.

Never cared to hear about exactly how I died in that crash and after just glancing through some of those pictures, that’s a brutal way to go. Didn’t realize it was as gruesome as it was.

There’s one particular camera angle of his crash that is full speed that shows how Fast he hit the wall and how sudden the stop was.

Yep, you knew it was bad after hearing Darrel Waltrip's immediate concern for Dale, even though his brother had just won the Daytona 500.

Yes. However it wasn't installed properly. The belt was bunched in the adjuster which over stressed it and caused it to "dump". That's the term the manufacturer used.

He was bad about not cinching the belts down tight.
