Dabo on expanding CFB Playoff: “To be honest, I don't think there‘s 12 teams good enough.”

Dabo Swinney is scheduled to appear at ACC Media Days on Thursday in Charlotte, North Carolina, but the Clemson coach let a spoiler fly Tuesday, when he told local reporters that the Tigers are not in favor of a 12-team College Football Playoff. The CFP could expand from four to 12 teams as early as the 2023 season, which would make it more accessible but also require that perennial participants like Clemson navigate a longer journey to a national title.

"Our team wasn't for it, Swinney said, according to The Athletic's Grace Raynor. "They don't want to play more games. And to be honest with you, I don't think there's 12 teams good enough."

"Maybe we should have a 40-team Premier League with a 12-team Playoff and if you stink you get relegated to the other level or something. I don't know."

He’s absolutely right. Some years there aren’t even 4 teams good enough

He’s not wrong. There’s not 8 teams good enough, yet everyone seems to want more blowout games.

64.28% of the semifinals have been 3 possession (17 points) or more blowouts. Dude ain't wrong, and neither are you.

Because everyone wants more money just like Dabo, unless that more money goes to the athletes then he'll quit.

He may be right but the first time an 8 seed wins it’ll be great for cfb. Gotta do something to get past where we are now of the same 3 teams every year. That has killed CFB more than the NIL ever will

I'm sure most of the top 12 last year could have beaten his team last year

There is about to be with NIL

All the cream is about to rise to the top. It'll be 12-15 teams that have any shot at being good every year with the money being brought in.

Been saying this for years. It's the perfect solution for most of CFB's ails.

NIL and the expanded Playoff are both subliminally aimed at diluting the Bama, Clem, OSU, OU, LSU, ND monopoly on "Who's In, Who's Out", and it's extra added recruiting exposure.

Pac10/USC/Ore, Big12/OU/Tex, Big10(sans OSU), all know they will need to buy Deep South/Sunshine St/Texas ballers to truly compete for Nattys.

He’s right and we all know it. I’m in favor though - why the heck not.
