Cubs doing typical Cubs moves.

The Central appreciates this.

At least Coach O had some experience coaching and even at a D-1 FBS level with not one but two teams.

I really hope I'm wrong on all this but you all know as Cubs fans not to get your hopes up. There are some glaring holes that need to be filled. But this stinks to high heaven as a safe PR move to ignore the fact that "P. K." Ricketts ain't gonna spend a dime this off-season.

Ross was essentially a bench coach his whole career. He averaged 56 games played his last 9 seasons and played 72 and 67 with the Cubs. 3 years in the FO as a special assistant

I think it’s more to do with the roster than the manager
Cubs roster shouldn’t be bad

I mean even Aaron Boone can’t frick up the Yankees

Jesus fricking Christ. Now you're just grasping at straws.

The Cubs bench coach during those two years when Ross was "essentially" a bench coach is currently managing the current NL champs. Throwing out weasel words doesn't make it any better.

Apparently the final decision was made because Ross made a good presser. There it is folks. We got the pennant at least locked up because Grandpa Rossy can give a good press conference.

Hate me and downvote me all you want but deep down in your heart you know I'm right.

I feel like Theo is more aware of Ross’s locker room presence than most.

Madden isn’t a bad coach, sometimes people get stale and you need someone new.

And yeah most of the coaching decisions are probably going to be straight off a spreadsheet but honestly I feel like Madden our coaches himself a lot.

His pitching decision in the World Series when we won were often questionable and got glossed over by the win.

You’re just spiraling man.

You need to fricking chill

Would one season of bench coaching made that much of a difference?

Not defending him at all. I'm ever grateful for what he's done but the team needed a new direction as Maddon's hipster ways of managing made the team way to complacent.

Espada would have been someone new. David Ross is not.

Ah I got lost in the melt.

Well look, I don’t know if Espada would have been good. I don’t know if Rossy will be good. We can go round and round with our opinions about it.

But the more important thing is this roster needs to be fixed. I’m way more concerned about that.

Fire Madden because he is too much of a player's manager; proceed to hire every player's best friend who was a player just or 4 years ago.

Makes total sense.

Anyone different is new.

Ross was on the team because he was Lester’s guy, but he earned everyone’s respect.

That’s not a terrible thing for a Manager to have. The locker room has not been as cohesive since he left.

I think Ross will do a fine job. His success will depend on the team that he is given. The Cubs have some work to do in that regard.

it is also the trend in MLB to hire managers with no to little experience these days. baseball is being run through the front offices now. it’s all analytics these days. Ross has worked for front office last 3 years even while at ESPN. I think he will be fine. Theo and company need to shake the lineup up more than anything

so you should want to hire someone who has a grip on what analytics are and how to apply then. Which if you've listen to Ross call games, doesnt seem like he does

This looks like a hire so the front office can run things.

a yes man, for their direction.
