Who was your pick Pechon?

I really was hoping Espada would have been the pick. He had a nice balance of not just being a player but had coached in the minors as well as the majors and some front office experience.

Embrace the analytics and build a good chemistry within the team. That’s really all they need imo.

Same was said about Joe and look where we're at. That's what they need, a friend. Not a manager that will keep them accountable. Funny how we're hearing the propaganda now that he would keep them accountable in 2016 as a player.

Boone has been successful. It also helps to have really good talent.

Boone was gifted an already well put together Yankees team that made the ALCS the year before he took over. The 2019 Cubs are a team that only remained on top of division of dunces only to fall apart with a 9 game skid when they had a 66% chance of making the playoffs to a big fricking goosegg. They have holes with pitching, particularly an aging starting rotation.

I wouldn’t lose sleep over this.

Neither will I but looks like Theo got a yes man and wants to manage from the FO. Plus if Ricketts continues to be cheap...well boys, time to get used to that good old futility again.

frick it, at this point let's bring back Mark fricking Grace. When Nico goes into a slump, Gracie will find only the finest ham beasts in Cook County.

That’ll be interesting. He’s certainly a player slack kind of guy. Wonder if he can get them motivated every day.

Bold move hiring one of the team's best buddies as manager.

He was a locker room leader in 2016 and the locker room has been much worse since
He retired

I feel Like he’s more than just a buddy.

Just you watch. When this team stumbles in the last couple weeks of the season next year the excuse of "wait till next year" gets replaced by "well we got a championship in 2016 guys".

Yet you have the Astros right now with their second pennant and possibly second WS championship in three years.

However I remember when there was supposed to be this pipeline of talent and multiple championships. A culture of winning and developing a "Cubs Way". Instead we get a bloated payroll filled with bad contracts and not a damn thing to show for it. But hey, we got old Grandpa Rossy because what do Cubs fans love most is that one guy you loved because they did that one thing.

But hey, we can keep waxing nostalgic about 2016 right?

It ain't propaganda, he would get on their arse it's well documented and IMHO you could tell the difference after he was gone in regard to accountability.

His “buddies” rizzo and lester probably rode their teammates harder than Maddon did. Heyward is his other guy. I do not seeing this being a problem. These guys have a different personality behind closed doors

Aaron Boone was a yuck yuck ESPN analyst guy who goofed off and did impression of hitter etc. His persona in the dugout is no where near what it appeared to the public

What do y’all even think managers do? It’s not a job that requires experience.

2016: OMG David Ross is awesome! He's a coach on the field. He knows how to rally the troops. Ross knows more about baseball than anyone else

2019: WTF were the Cubs thinking? Does he even know how many innings are in a baseball game?

LET's GO ROSSY!!!

Ahem:

quote:

Which brings us back to “Grandpa Rossy,’’ as his younger teammates affectionately called him when he was a Cub. He fit in perfectly with Maddon’s petting-zoo cuteness. He was enthusiastic, a one-man glee club. Since Maddon was sent away Sunday, Ross supporters have been quick to point out their man’s willingness as a player to confront teammates for mistakes or a lack of hustle. That’s important if the Cubs are going to follow the age-old formula of replacing one manager with his exact opposite in terms of approach and attitude.

So if Maddon was touchy-feely and unable to rouse his players to try harder, it would make perfect sports sense for the next manager to have been a former Green Beret who likes to eat unfiltered cigarettes for breakfast. That’s why Ross would seem to be a tough sell, public image-wise. What Chicago knows of Ross is that he was always smiling, he was a great teammate, and that favorite sons Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant were particularly smitten with him. The city also knows that he retired to spend more time with his family, then became an ESPN baseball analyst, wrote a book, became a special assistant to the Cubs’ baseball operations department and did ‘‘DWTS.’’

LINK

Rather than get an outsider who would have a more stern approach and a fresh outlook, Theo and P.K. Ricketts with the safe choice (read: cheap).

This doesn't bode well for the offseason. Welcome back to the baseball wilderness.

They don't care because frick you, you'll keep buying tickets, merch, and whatever has Clark's stupid face plastered on it (don't get me started on that abomination). So long as your arse is in the seats at Wrigley, why bother winning. Because hey, they got good ol Grandpa Rossy.
