Pros: Lower strikeout numbers early on on the hitting side. Putting the ball in play has paid dividends.

Hitting for power without relying solely on the long ball.

Pitching has been average so far, which is better than expected.

Suzuki is forcing MLB to adjust to him vs him still trying to figure things out.

Cons: Ross is trying to set the record for most IP from the BP. Very frustrating at times.

Too many walks given up.

Not striking out a ton of batters, but the defense has been good

I don't expect much from this team. .500 would be a good season, but I like the makeup. More balls in play, scoring with more than the long ball.

If Ross doesn't start letting the starters work a bit longer then fire his arse.

Suzuki is awesome

I still don’t trust Wisdom and Schwindel

The rotation has been good so far but the bullpen is terrible

I think we’ll be in position to fight for the division because it’s bad but it’ll probably take an addition at the deadline

Completely different offensive approach.

Getting guys on base a lot more often via singles/doubles.

With that said, plenty of power in the lineup to drive them in.

Bullpen has been sketch.

Starting pitching is ok.

Did you see the story that we offered Correa but he didn't get the offer because of a mix-up with his agent? Talk about a purely Cubs type situation.

Seeing Suzuki have early success has been a lot of fun.

Pitching was always going to be a weakness this year, but I’m hoping that means some young arms get to come up at some point during the season. I think Ross is being forced to use the bullpen more right now because of the shortened spring training and lack of preseason workouts.

I’m encouraged so far, but think this team ends up around .500 without really fighting for the division the last month of the year. I’d still be pleased if that’s the case.

I much prefer the contact based approach to the 14 strikeouts every night and the going a week without scoring more than 1 or two runs way too often. May have to start doing some more running and hit and runs to stay out of so many double plays.

I think getting Mills, Miley and Alzolay back in the next few weeks will only help there - very worried about the Professor though.

Dude is legit and with his approach, I don't see that changing.

I really didn't expect anything for the next 2-3 years. Heyward needs to go once Brennen Davis is ready. You can't honestly say that you are trying to get better with him starting.

Could the overuse of the BP be why the pitching has been average so far? If Ross let the starters work a bit longer, is it possible that the pitching would start to fall into the below average category?

My expectations for this team are so low, I’ve actually been pretty pleased so far. The front office has be salivating at the thought of Villar hitting and Smyly pitching well.

Not really, I think everyone is doing this right now, ramping up starters slowly due to the limited spring trainers. Pitcher are a bit different and require a bit more pampering than position players in that regard.

Really ready for that era to be over. A 6'5" 230 pounder who can barely reach the warning track

Probably situational. Smyly hasn't given up a run in his two starts but has been pulled with under 80 pitches in each.

Hendricks has been awful, so it makes sense. Stroman was good his first start and was pulled after 5.

Could be an abbreviated spring type of thing, but it's also what baseball has gone to.

Got a link to that?

I don't think this team is going anywhere, but it's been encouraging to see them play differently offensively. As all of have said, pitching is going to be a problem all year.
