Mitch won't make this deal without a big coming back somehow so either Nene would be apart of the deal or he will swing a trade for a defensive minded center such as a Ben Wallace or they might even bring Kwame Brown back, he's doing a decent job starting for the Bobcats right now

It may make them worse for a few games (like when the Heat initially struggled) to get it together, but they would run train when it came to the playoffs.

Personally, I doubt this deal is getting done and just cause the management is great should not detract from Kobe.

Am I the only one who thinks Melo to Lakers makes them worse? Kills team chemistry, kills defense, and the Lakers lose their strongest suit (outside of Kobe) of having three strong bigs. Now you weaken your 2nd rotation and have Kobe and Melo fighting over the ball.

Only thing this improves is Gasol's low post game because folks will be afraid to double and leave Melo open for the trey bien.

well, the 1 month a year that he's healthy Bynum is a good player... and I do think it would help the Lakers offense (assuming Kobe and Melo get along)

But I have no idea if Melo really knows how to play in a triangle and feel like they would be a worse defensive team with him on the court

Keep dreaming?? Its public knowledge they have at least had talks so its assumed that they want Bynum right? Well if they get Bynum then where is Nene gonna play? Would he come off the bench?

If anything, they would find a third team.

I have no idea how they would be able to institute a more restrictive cap number when the Lakers would have three player on Huge max deals for like the next 4 years.

If the Lakers got Melo they would be paying

Kobe $25.2 million, Pau $18.7 million, and Melo $18.2 million

They would be paying $62.1 million for 3 players. It would only go up the next several seasons also.

The current salary cap is $58 million.

FWIW, Bynum is a legit young talent that can end up being a franchise guy. I would agree it is probably their best option. Melo using his own leverage has killed his real trade value.

he's only 6-11

nene, bynum, and kmart will be a 3-headed rotation at center. in terms of on-court production, who would you rather the past 3 years: nene or bynum?

I was amazed when they got Gasol without giving up much in return

Um, they gave up his brother who is pretty good (15/10 guy last year), 2 first round draft picks, Javarious Crittenton, who was averaging 15+ ppg per 36 minutes at the time, and Kwame Brown.

Basically, the Lakers gave up their future C/PF who is a double/double guy now, 2 potential great draft picks, their possible future point guard who was playing great at the time, and Kwame Brown (well...he's big at least )

Get this deal done today. This is perfect for the NBA, the Lakers, and The Nuggets.

The Lakers get Melo, the future star/face of the team.

The Nuggets get an up and coming young big man.

The NBA will get a blockbuster superstar laden finals - Lakers v Heat.

Kobe supporters would have a seizure. Kobe is the BEST EVAR! LeBron is a bitch for playing with Wade, KOBE WON TITLES BY HIMSELF

A. Kobe already has 5 titles regardless of the addition of Melo. Lebron James has 0 titles.
B. No one said Kobe "won by himself". What I say is Shaq needed Kobe as much as Kobe needed Shaq. Many MORE people tend to think Jordan led his team of scrubs to titles, etc.

I doubt it would make them worse, but Melo wouldn't be ok with Kobe taking 12 consecutive shots while they're losing a big game.

His brother (lately) becoming a real player made the deal less absurd... but you will easily trade a bunch of disposable parts and a couple draft picks at the end of the first round for one of the best big men in the game

Feel free to disagree but if I'm a fan of memphis or minnesota I keep waiting for the big market team to send me Dirk or Amare for a couple draft picks and a couple middling players

and brown was an expiring, so they also "received" $40-50M in eliminated salary obligations

which has allowed them to re-sign their current core

I threw the word "potential" in there so I would have some leeway to exaggerate.
