To be fair, I can't remember ever seeing Cris Carter on TV doing anything besides actually playing football and thinking "Cris Carter is adding something positive to this broadcast."

This slightly reminds me of the Trent Dilfer/private plane situation. When ESPN had to put him in his place and he was quickly shown the exit door.

Chris Carter always sounds irritated, which usually makes me feel a little that way also. I especially try to avoid his show in the mornings because I don't want to start my day in that type of mood.

Lebatard has never shied away from calling Trent Dilfer out. Early this year he let the cat out of the bag... LINK

quote:

Prior to his layoff, Dilfer reportedly sparred with ESPN NFL producer Seth Markman about his future with the company before eventually returning after he couldn’t get the offer he expected from Fox Sports.

quote:

Years later, some details about that conversation between Markman and Dilfer have come to light, from (of all places) Dan Le Batard. According to Le Batard, Dilfer may have overplayed his hand when he was negotiating his contract.

quote:

Le Batard: Herbstreit also has like a private jet, right? Isn’t he like the only one at the company who’s allowed to?

Ruiz: That detail I don’t know, but obviously you’re going to need some private travel to get you from like North Dakota whenever they take College GameDay on the road, and either the game that they’re at is not a game that ESPN has the rights to or they’re doing a different game.

So yeah, he’s going to have to get flown privately from some of these locations.

Le Batard: You want to hear a good ESPN story that I know to be true involving private flying? Because no one is allowed to fly privately, no matter how high up you are at the company.

Ruiz: Yeah, unless you’re traveling for a game broadcast.

Le Batard: Right, right because he’s doing two things in one day. Kirk Herbstreit is in the afternoon, that makes sense. In the afternoon, he’s doing GameDay and then he’s gotta fly somewhere else to do the night game.

[…]

There was a certain employee who overplayed his hand in negotiations with ESPN because he was very powerful and he was getting a lot of acclaim. And keep in mind, all across ESPN, people disappear from day-to-day and you forget that they were ever there. Like no there’s no announcement, next thing you know Eric Mangini’s just on Fox three years later.

And so there was a contentious negotiation and during that negotiation it was brought up, ‘Well, if Herbstreit has a private plane, why can’t I have a private plane?’ Where upon all of a sudden, next thing you know, no private plane, and Trent Dilfer is no longer with us.

Dilfer tip toed around that when Russillo brought it up last time he was on his podcast.

Dilfer claimed he was let go because he was more difficult to handle than the other personalities and said it came down to him arguing that they were doing too much “debate television” instead of trying to make good content

Yeah I liked him as an analyst, although he can be super cheesy sometimes.

They’ve seemed to just find cheaper version of him like Dan Orlosky

That dude is so hit or miss at times. Especially on that morning show.

I really like Dilfer and think his story is relatable to a number of dudes across pro sports. But you've got to know your hand in those situations. I can think of only two dudes who can flex on ESPN and get away with it (SVP & Herby). He isn't in the same universe as those two.

Nick's his boy though. Mostly because once Nick says something stupid and Cris would call him out on it, all Nick would come back with was something akin to "Yes Mister Carter".

Nick Wright is a total idiot. I listened him too long as I am at work, then realized I was getting freaking annoyed at his voice and stupid opinions. Then when I saw this buttboy, I realized why I couldn't stand him.

Never again. Tune him out quick.

frick Cris Carter! Like somebody already said, once a POS, always a POS. Look no further than the degenerate son he raised. Just ask Chris Speilman how he feels about him.

LeBatard must have forgotten Manginni was hired as a DC then went to Fox after the staff was fired.
