Lakers can give the Spurs Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kuzma for Kawhi Leonard. Guarantee if Pop sticks around he turns them into a competitive group. The dynamic between Popovich and Lavar Ball would be incredible.

ETA: If he went to LA via trade and not FA.

Why would you ever go play with Lonzo when you could play with Elfrid Payton.

Who says Lonzo would still be around the team by that point? I kind of see Lonzo fizzling out of the NBA at this rate. He just doesn't seem like a guy thats hungry to prove himself, but its understandable given all that he's accomplished up to this point.

The heart is a fickle thing. Kawhi has a title, a finals mvp, more money than the avg person could conceive in 100 lifetimes. Wouldn’t blame him or hold grudge if he did leave.

Unless he went to golden state

If healthy I would rather have Kawhi over Lebron for next season and beyond.

Kawhi + George + the Lakers young core would be nasty as frick going forward

I have held (maybe delusional) hope that pop is holding him for later in the year. Pop started the whole “resting” thing and extending players careers. I also thought we would see more quasi Day to Day injuries this year because teams can get fined for sitting star players

It isn’t really like pop to come out and say I don’t expect him back either. Seems too direct a response for what media normally get from him.

It was very un-Pop like. But this entire season has been an anomaly in the Pop era of Spurs basketball. I honestly don't know how to read this sitch because you know we don't have the full story.

How many athletes need to be linked to LAL one way or another?

You think these guys care THAT much? Lebron reps Cleveland all the time but ask yourself, had for some ungodly reason CLE passed on him and took Melo and LBJ ended up in Detroit, do you believe Lebron goes to cleveland because it’s his home team? He rocks a Yankees hat then when the Indians are relevant, he’s an Indians fan.

Not to turn this into a LBJ thread, just using the “hometown hero” as an example.

Pop is a douche to the media and out of touch politically. But he is one of the most beloved coaches by former players in the history of the league.

That's irrelevant for current players. douche Pop has not gotten along with his players lately, especially since Duncan retired. Kawhi doesn't like Pop.
