i remember going on many trips to the beach with friends when i was 15, 16, 17, etc. we didn't drive all the way from ohio, so it might be slightly different. fact of the matter is, the kid went to the beach with his friends and something horrible happened. please don't place blame on people (parents, friends, alcohol, etc) when you don't know any of the details. this is really sad and prayers go out to the family/friends.

Cincinnati to Panama City Beach is between 11-12 hours away. When you're from Ohio and talking about getting to the beach, that's "not that far"

Source: I've made that exact trip with friends twice

no one takes a plane to spring break.

and it doesnt matter if they broke the driving up or not.

I know they got their safely, but as a good parent, a red flag automatically goes up because nothing good can really happen letting some 17 year olds drive that far.

what did they think they were going to the beach to do?? just throw a frisbee around and get some rays?

you can't watch your kids 24-7, especially when they are goin to college in less than a year.

at 17, when they still live in your house, and in high school, and about to graduate high school you sure the frick can.

not constantly watching over your kid around the neighborhood and letting him drive 12 hours to the beach to get fricked up at age 17 are 2 different things

and not giving them any freedom at all? plus they will find ways around you watching them. Do you know how easy it is to lie to parents?

chances are they've been to parties and gotten fricked up before.

Quick question to the people blaming the parents, if he was 18, would your opinion change? Most of his friends probably are, and chances are that he'd turn 18 within the next month or two. Technically, he'd be an adult then, but in reality, there's really not a difference between him now and a month from now (as far as decision making/responsibility goes. His mind will be the same).

exactly. It's ridiculous. It's a senior in h.s. who would have been all on his own soon. It's actually probably a good thing because if he goes way at certain times he learns to adapt and live on his own without his parents.

not giving them freedom???

come the frick on. you can give a kid freedom without letting them go to spring break at 17 12 hours away.

getting fricked up around the corner and getting fricked up 1000 miles away is kind of different

Not in Ohio. The majority go to Myrtle beach. I'm trying to think and I don't know anybody who did the travel for spring break thing in hs. Senior trip after graduating yes, but not spring break. I think that's poor form by the parents.

I really don't find it a big deal about them traveling for spring break, just to add my opinion to the debate.

Families go to SC. Kids go to Fl. And I know plenty that went this year. Many with parents, some without.
