Folks please watch what you say & write. They are friends of my family that are greiving. Back-off the smart arse remarks & judgements. A young life is lost and parents are devastated.

No doubt they are and nobody is diminishing their loss. However, discussion of parents allowing a 17 year old kid go to FL for Spring Break is a legit topic and worthy of discussion.

For a lot of kids, school isn't the first thing on their mind in college, to be sure.

Just to be clear, if I was a parent, I would go with my children in HS on SB. I'm just saying that I see/understand the people who allow them to go by themselves.

how about..... my parents were smart enough to not let me go on SB at 17 unsupervised, and when i eventually did go to Spring break, i was responsible enough not to fall off a balcony?

if thats perfection, fine. I just call it normal and smart parenting

If it was truly a freak accident then that's sad, but common sense says that probably wasn't the case and if alcohol and/or stupidity was involved then I don't really feel much sympathy.

lester earl more than the other dude.

I think what the other guy said just came out wrong. I think what he meant is that when someone puts themselves in a bad position bad things happen.

Spoken like a clueless HS'er. Lester is right; you really don't have any concept of responsibility, maturity, or what it takes to be a parent. Understandable considering your age, but hopefully you'll grow up as you grow older.
