Had a cousin to almost drown in a hot tub. She was going under water and the suction grabbed her hair and held her down. They were ripping out hair to get her out. They managed to resuscitate her after doing it over and over. No Ill effects, she’s fine.

We have had great times as a family in our pool.

I grew up in a trailer....in those days, only rich people had pools...at least in my mind.

Felt like having a pool would be a great accomplishment...and, in many ways, it is quite nice.

But, make no mistake, a pool is a blessing and an absolute curse.

I hope to never own one again once this house and pool are sold.

This happened in my community. Awful news. We are in shock. Happened at their friends' house.

In 1994, my parents were going to buy their first house and had their pick between one of two houses on the same street. Both the same price, both near identical on the build, but one had a pool.

They opted for the one without a pool for this reason. I ended up being good friends with that kid that moved into the house a couple years later and almost drowned a year after that.

condolences to Bode's family.

My 4 year old just started swimming without floaties. This is my biggest fear right now. He is so confident. We dont have a pool, but my in laws do and he stays with them a few times during the week all summer. I remind the mother in law everytime I drop him off.

How do adults let this happen? Sad.

Just took my two year old to a swimming party and it's the most stressed I've been in my entire life. Don't think I spoke one word to the other adults. Just constantly looking at her or running after her.

I feel like anyone with a pond or a pool has a story about a close call or worse. I distinctly remember my cousin (probably 4 at the time) nearly drowning in our pond before my mom jumped in and pulled her out. One of my teachers who was in aquatic services called water “An attractive nuisance.”

was Bode Miller the one who also lost a brother recently? If so, what a rough period of time for him and his family.
