As a parent that’s honestly one of my worst fears
I personally know of two people this happened to

Have a pool and small kids.
Already had one scare a few years ago. I had just got home from work. Asked wife where kids were...she said all in front yard playing, including the older ones.
I glanced out the back window on my way to the bedroom to change clothes....saw our 3 year old's head sticking out of the water...he had crawled through the pet door and jumped in the middle of the pool. I got to him right about the time he was going down. He was just fine.
I have nightmares about it.

I have a 17 month old daughter. I truly can't imagine. Really, it's too painful to even try and relate in my mind what that would be like

I'll Never build a pool until my youngest is old enough to swim laps on the swim team.

Damn. And will for years. When my youngest was 5 he let go of my hand walking across the street and was one step away from getting hit by a car. That was 8 years ago and I think about it often.

frick
My son yanked away from my wife at 18 months and fell down two flights of iron stairs. That was almost two years ago and at least once a month I have a nightmare where I'm watching it happen in slow motion. He somehow only got a nice little hematoma on his scalp and a black eye but I distinctly remember thinking "I'm watching my kid die".

ok my 10month old is crying now, fighting sleep.. Im about to go hold him a while. I didnt know who bode miller was without google, but reguardless of who it is.. thats freaking terrible. Knew a guy a couple yrs ago went to a buddies for a cookout, they were all inside and his 2 yr old happen to slip outside and fall in his friends pool and drown. Terrible situation for both guys

My 1 yr old niece died in her parents pool. Roughest days of my life. Prayers sent. Some of the Only comfort can be found in Jesus's resurrection and knowing that his child will have everlasting life.

I was cleaning my pool with my 2 year old son out with me. I hear splash behind me and turn to see him head down completely submerged in the hot tub and not doing anything. I don’t think I’ve ever moved that fast in my life. He was under water for less than 5 seconds but I’ll never forget what he looked like under the water...we have one of those screen fences all the way around the pool...couldn’t imagine living without it.

Had 2 similar experiences with my son: watching fall down the stairs backward at about 15 months and him having a fibral seizure after getting out of the bath at 2 years old. Felt totally helpless in both cases.
Being a parent is tough and there is only so much you should do to protect your kids. They have to learn some things on their own. I agree with others though and have never wanted a pool while my kids are young.

My little girl fell in a hotel pool recently. We were drying off the boys, didn’t even hear a splash. She was about 18 months at the time. I looked back one second and she was nowhere near it and the next time she’s sinking. I ran over in a matter of seconds and pulled her out by the leg. She wasn’t under long but felt like a lifetime. My wife and I were shaking for a while after. Prayers to Bode Miller and his family.

My grandmother had a phone call
Just long enough for me to walk outside at 3 years old to fall into the deep end of her pool.
She hangs up, then goes looking for me to find me at the bottom of the deep end. Jumps in and pulls me out and hangs me upside down to try to get all the water out. Go to hospital to get my stomach pumped. Good times.
