Did it though? Do you truly care if LSU plays Oregon or Washington as an SEC game and not OOC?

Hate to say it but this has been happening for decades now

people have been saying this for years. Maybe they are finally right, but I doubt it

The pros heavily outweigh the cons for the sport

Not too often this happens for me, especially on this board, but I 1000% agree with the OP. Give me pre-2019 college football please. Not this AAA version of the NFL.

I think it will be stale like the NFL in the sense that we're just going to have a couple mega conferences with a 16 team playoff that will probably have some 9-3 teams. The critical nature of certain regular season games simply won't be there. Why will OSU/Michigan or Auburn/Alabama care much if they are both headed to the playoffs?

I really thought COVID would pop the college sports bubble and stop expansion. But, everything has gone into overdrive (TV deals, coaches salaries, conference expansion).

the SEC will still reign supreme because their expansion and expansion options have only fueled inter-conference hatred.

You are a fricking idiot.

You think anyone below the age of 50 is ultimately responsible for these things?

I certainly agree with this.

I fricking hate the CFP.

building luxury suites, paying multi-million coaching salaries, constantly building/rebuilding facilities in a never-ending "arms race"

The facilities arms race is the biggest joke. The second a school reaches the goal of the big capitol campaign, they just extend it. The second all the new football complex facilities are completed, the Board of Regents is voting to build new-new indoor practice facilities. All on the advice of coaches who are getting fired after 4-5 years and need their buyouts covered.

They pretend it's all about recruiting, as if the new Hall of Mirrors in the Player Development Center would have landed Sagitariat Jefferspin instead of the cash and cars he got somewhere else.

The facilities arms race is really about college administrators and regents getting wined and dined, rolling around in cash with the construction and architecture firms - most of which have ties to alumni and state politicians.

Was just telling a friend that I am more interested in NFL this season than college. And I don't know, at least in recent memory, if I've felt that way before.

Even as a fan of a Big Ten school, there was just something so greedy and gross about the Big Ten taking USC and UCLA, it really is a turnoff to watch. I don't think any team, whether it be Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, etc. give a crap about playing USC or UCLA. I think the Big Ten schools want to play each other!

And, I don't watch minor league baseball or basketball, and I don't want to watch minor league football. And if this is the way it's going to be, I think more and more fans are going to tune out.

This is like an SEC school going ape shite over getting into the First Four of the NCAA Tourney. It’s cool if you make a 16 team CFP and you have Kentucky across your jersey. Anybody else is just going to have their insignificant game in the playoff, just like the Semis are now.

Most sports thrive off of playoffs and a single champion. College football always had the bigger crowds, and maintained massive ratings without those things. College fans want to go back to the alma mater, check out the campus, reminisce with old friends, tailgate, and see State U kick the shite out of rival Tech.
