College Football Playoff Picture

I know we are only in week two, but it already appears the Playoff picture has firmed up.
1. No one in the ACC will challenge Clemson
2. Except for Maryland, Ohio State should win all games handily. Ohio State gets Maryland in Columbus this year. If they win (and, obviously the Big Ten Championship), they are in.
3. The SEC Champion (Alabama, LSU, or Georgia) is in.
ETA: Thankfully, we won't have to deal with the Notre Dame scenario this year. I fully expect Georgia to thrash them in a couple of weeks.
That leaves the last spot. If OU wins out, I assume they'd get in, right? That said, I can easily see them dropping a game to Texas or in the Big 12 Championship. Then, what do you do with a (hypothetical) one-loss SEC Champ runner-up and a one-loss SEC-West runner up?

Cancel the season and try again next year. Hypothetically of course.

How badly does each lose to Bama/LSU? If Bama/LSU wins in a close game, but blow out Georgia in the SEC champ game, then I would assume the Bama/LSU loser would get in. All of these scenarios are huge what if's in week 2 btw.

I won't go as far as to say there are any locks but after the top 6, there seems to be a clear (both from the fans and media) gap.
Clemson
Bama
LSU/UGA/OSU/OU bunched together with LSU top of that since they have best win today
If I asked you who the 7th best team in the country is, people would have no clue. But if you ask about the top 6, everyone will likely have the same teams
Edit: It will not play out like this at all, as it's CFB and it almost never goes 100% according to plan

You're underestimating the Big 10. Even ESPN's numbers have Penn State the favorite to win their division over the Buckeyes.

Yep.
Scenario 1:
OU loses to Texas 45-35, but beats them 34-24 in Big 12 Champ.
LSU loses 28-21 - at Tuscaloosa.
Alabama loses to UGA 31-28 in the SEC Championship (Georgia finished undefeated)
Scenario 2:
Same as above, but flip the AL/UGA SEC Champ scenario

If LSU goes 11-1 and the only loss is say a 7-10 point loss to bama, they will be extremely difficult to keep out with wins over Texas, A&M, Florida, Auburn, even state who might win 8 games. Similar to ohio state and alabama sitting home during championship weekend.
I’d say as of now pac 12 is 100% out.
Clemson- ACC
Alabama, LSU, UGA,- SEC
Ohio State, Michigan, PSU- Big 10
Oklahoma, Texas- Big 12
Thats your playoff contenders

If LSU wins the SEC.. 3 SEC teams get in
If Georgia wins the SEC... 2 SEC teams get in
If Alabama wins the SEC... 1 SEC team gets in

Maryland sure is getting a lot of hype. I still think they lose 5 games.

There's also the wildcard of Washington. I can see them going undefeated in the pac. I don't think Utah can run the table though. Wisconsin also looks like they are strong this year.
Disregard this. Didn't realize Washington lost to Cal.

That's not happening. 12-1 Georgia would be left out in favor of 11-1 Bama.

The SEC has not played well enough in non conference play to get 3 teams in

Washington is currently 0-1 in the PAC

Might want to check Washington's result from last weekend...
Utah still probably has a decent shot. That defense is solid as hell, and they don't have many holes. Wazzu and Oregon (particularly if Auburn doesn't crater) still have an opportunity as well.
