This is dumb. The money is several orders of magnitude higher and never previously could kids just hop around programs going to the highest bidder and not have to sit out a year.

College football is making more money than ever.

The fans will never cut off the funding. It reminds of Dallas Cowboy fans. Most express their dislike of Jerry Jones, but they still happily sling money at the Cowboys.

You would have to have empty stadium AND terrible TV ratings to force a change.

Nothing?

Education, money , potential nfl players? They are given the opportunity what they do with it is up to them and their abilities and commitment just like most others in this world. College football has never been better for players.

Define "alive"

They are only required to give scholarships to match the men. There are no funding requirements.

I’d define it as.. not dead?

I agree women’s sports will see funding cuts. At least to whatever extent possible under Title IX - I think it’s still too early to assume that it only requires equal scholarships. Regardless, I would expect funding cuts for sure.

But non-revenue men’s sports will straight up get cancelled.

Of course that might also hurt the women’s sports, to an extent, as there will be less scholarships to offset. Depends how the numbers match up with the increased scholarship limits for football/baseball/MBB.

Also, if they make a move to separate football from the university, Title IX is out the window at that point.

I’m not sure that I buy this as the long term outcome. At some point they’ll be cooking the golden goose, and I’m sure people in the industry are aware of this.

I think it ends with a separate league/legislative body for football, e.g. moving it away from the NCAA, and then collective bargaining with the players.

But the NFL has those pesky owners. Once these people get their hands on the college game they’ll have total control to do as they please.

I already have in some ways. I gave up half of my season tickets and don't make every game appointment television. I'll watch the SEC games and big OOC games, but I don't tie my emotions to the outcome like I used to.

And in the long run, that's going to impact the way my kids ingest the sport. I developed my die-hard habits because my dad had them. They aren't seeing the same thing from me because the sport just feels a lot different.

Up until 2020 or so I could name the 3 deep at every position and where most of them went to high school. I don't give a frick really about the roster now until I see them on the field for a game.

NCAA football will need someone to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement for the players.

And you're missing the point. I meant beholden to nothing at each school. They just jump around for highest bidder and nothing from the NFL has suggested they care when they evaluate the players.

In the pros, at least for a while, they stay with teams because they are under contract. There are no contracts for these kids.

At some point not entering into collective bargaining becomes worse. If you want to maintain a competitive landscape, re-implement some form of transfer restrictions, etc. then the only way to do that is collective bargaining unless the NCAA gets antitrust protections, which looks extremely unlikely.

I don't think that is fully true. I've cut my cfb related expenses & watch time down a ton. If it's not LSU, or a game I am interested in, I probably wont watch. I know many others who also dont spend as much on cfb anymore. It's a bit easier now to cut off the addiction when you don't like the general trend of the sport. Stadiums look like they get emptier every season. Ad revenue from TVs I am sure is up but I dont feel bad about contributing in that way. Costs me nothing compared to going to games.

Why do a lot of coaches get paid housing? They are getting paid. Let them buy their own house.

Purely for tax purposes. Paying it as a "housing allowance" instead of salary makes it deductible.

Can you imagine how fun it’s going to be when we have our first player strike in college football?
