Just take 50% of the head coach’s salary and split it amongst the players.

This is what will eventually have to happen. The money has to come from somewhere and the fans have limits. The TV contracts will be locked in.

You will see coaches salaries drop, athletic departments fire massive amounts of people and non-revenue sports will be discontinued.

Also, few major infrastructure projects will take place.

It's funny that you don't think this has been going on forever.

It's now out in the open, and there is nothing the NCAA can do about it.

OP title should've been "college sports is done" because outside of a few sports, most will not survive this.

Title IX will keep women’s sports alive, but non-revenue men’s sports are in for a reckoning.

Oh, it's the "schools have always cheated guy"

Welcome.

Nothing that has happened in the past is even remotely comparable to what is currently going on. Boosters giving a car, or some spending money or a job was normal. Players are getting millions now.

At this point, why should they get free tuition? They are getting paid now. Let them pay their own tuition.
Why do a lot of coaches get paid housing? They are getting paid. Let them buy their own house.

You’re crazy if you think this is just the same old thing “out in the open.” The amount of money going out in 2025 will be unprecedented in college athletics.

Define "alive"

They are only required to give scholarships to match the men. There are no funding requirements.

Also, if they make a move to separate football from the university, Title IX is out the window at that point.

People have been saying this for decades.

When a star player on your team can transfer for more money to your conference rival and play against your team a half year later, it is just not the same sport. I have never said college football is dead, but it is not what I fell in love with.

I stopped following recruiting because recruiting classes never last 3-4 years anymore. I stopped following roster moves because there are just too many portal additions. Because of this I'm just not as close to my team or the sport and don't care as much on weekends.

I've talked about this with all of my buddies and they all pretty much agree. Saban walked away because the sport he loved was gone, fans will start to, including me.

I'm ok with NIL, but the open transferring is just awful. Not even pros can do that, they have contracts. And if we just start putting them on payroll from ticket sales, it has completely jumped the shark.

This is pro football now; call it minor league if you want to; but eventually the floodgates will open to the point ; athletes will especially football players will not have to attend class; Just watch and see. The slippery slope is no longer slippery it’s a free fall!

It is worse. Pros have contracts. These kids are beholden to nothing.

They are making the assumption that college football is so popular that they can do anything and not lose fan support or TV money.

I think they are wrong, but we will see. The sports landscape is littered with has been sports that used to be popular but are a shell of their former popularity levels (Boxing, NASCAR)

This is dumb. The money is several orders of magnitude higher and never previously could kids just hop around programs going to the highest bidder and not have to sit out a year.

Now traditional families and fans get priced out on gameday. Corporations will take over ownership, and the crowds will be stale and old.

We already have that. It’s called the NFL.

This is no longer going to be college football. College football is dead. What we are going to have now is a lower level professional, corporate league with a few ties to schools. Athletes won’t be going to classes and school. They will be full time football players.
