Its a consensous poll for a reason. Of those examples, which ones, if made a difference in a teams ranking? I know Florida fell to 3 in 95, behind Tenn who they thumped just as bad as NU beat them, but does it really matter?

If you put a committee that picks 4 teams, it won't vary from the current polls or BCS in any significant way.

Have a playoff of the top conference champions with no at large teams. Use the BCS computers for seeding.

It would provide huge money and excitement. Much less controversy as you have the a champion from the top conferences competing. Maybe 4-6 participants.

Have the polls still do ranking with the only stipulation that the winner is ranked #1.

Correct. Plenty of people had Stanford 3rd and Oklahoma State 4th like Saban. They had the same record and Stanford lost to Oregon while Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State. Not an unreasonable position at all.

I think a committee is just as likely to use the stupid "eye test" to frick over a more deserving team like OSU was last year.

Cept for the fact that they won there division and conference, as well as playing a tougher schedule and beating more ranked teams then bama.

They also lost to more unranked teams than Bama, LSU, and Stanford combined.

So you lose bias when you stop coaching? When you deal with people, you deal with bias. It's as unavoidable as breathing

True, but there's a big difference between retired coaches and a current coaches. Sure retired coaches have bias, and they have motivations such as pride, loyalty to their old schools, bragging rights, etc. But current coaches have much stronger motivations, the biggest of which is $$$$$. Money that goes to their team, their conference, their salaries, not mention an bonuses they get depending on their contracts.

So what?

I really mean this. Boise St. lost to a ranked team. Should they go to the title game? TCU's only loss was Baylor, who probably should've gone to a BCS bowl -- do they get to go the title game? No. Because it ignores the resume: who did you beat? What did you accomplish?

Anyone who points to a team's loss, unless the loss is truly terrible (which a 7-5 Iowa St team in 2 OT on a disputed call is not), is just trying to distract you from their own lack of accomplishments. Who did you beat? What did you do? What did you earn?

I swear, this drives me insane. Teams have been doing this for years to distract from their lack of quality wins. It's the #1 trick in Texas' bag, usually.

After 1/9 it was blatantly obvious that they got at least one of the teams right in the BCS championship game. You should be congratulating the voters/computers for getting the best team in the country in the BCS championship game, not bitching about it.

Last year it had everything to do with Saban being the coach and Bama being the team. It had nothing to do with the resume.

Had it been any team outside of ND, USC, Texas, or Bama in that situation the team with the better resume would have made it like they have in the past.

LSU and Bama split a pair of meetings. Nothing was proven.

Bama played a one game season. They didn't earn it. And frankly, the fact that LSU played a dud of a game so now Bama fans can pretend they deserved to be in the game pisses me off.

You didn't. It's simple as that. Alabama beat less teams with winning records than LSU beat that had won 10 games. Oklahoma St. had an objectively better resume. Alabama got back-doored into the game because of the name on their jersey, which is just a grossly unfair system. then, they played their best game all year while LSU played their worst and won the game so they get a title despite still having a worse resume.

As someone who believes in the meritocracy, it makes me want to puke. Bama didn't earn a spot in the game, it was handed to them for being Bama. Had the resumes been exactly the same, but the teams Oklahoma and Aubunr, OU would've been in the title game. It had everything to do with brand recognition.

Bama won the game so they get to be champs. This is the system we have, and Bama didn't create it. Rules is the rules. But if you want me to pretend Bama earned their spot in that game, well... they didn't. They just didn't. It had everything to do with marketing and branding... which is pretty much the exact reasons I despise the BCS. It's a beauty contest.

Quality of wins AND losses should be looked at. What was so special or extraordinary about OSU's wins that would make up for choking to ISU?

Nonsense, Bama was proven to be the National Champion. Making LSU look silly on 1/9 was just a bonus.

They earned once they got there. But they should NOT have been there. To be honest they beat the shite out of LSU.
