Cignetti has. .794% win percentage coaching nothing but dumpster fire programs. Thatvis more impressive than taking over a program that was in the championship conversation but just needed to get over the hump

I can't disagree, he's doing this at Indiana. That's supposed to be the bottom of the pile in the power conferences. I need to sit down and read up on him.

I think we are talking about the 2 best coaches in the game currently but 2 coaches who are different. I don't think either would be as successful if they switched places. Smart is the perfect fit currently for the Big time pressure packed program loaded with talent but also expectations. I think Cignetti is the perfect fit for the out of nowhere type program that will have to find unique ways to do it but also doesn't have the same pressure and expectations. Both paths have their own challenges but these 2 seem like perfect fits for where they are. Also being the best coach is very fluid and not something you either are or aren't. You could be the best in the game one year and considered way down the list 1-2 seasons later. It ebbs and flows and coaches have to constantly change and adapt. We might be talking about somebody completely different next year.

Lol - Jesus Christ. The guy took over a roster of NFL talent and went 8-5 with a huge Liberty Bowl win.

Imagine thinking anyone is a better coach than Kirby.

Why is this so impressive? A hell of a lot more coaches have improved dumpster fire of teams than have done well at a top 15 school.

Let’s take a look at guys like Napier, Scott Frost, etc.

Again , I never said Cignetti isn’t a very good coach. But claiming he is even top 5 right now without a title is laughable.

Imagine thinking a guy who took a roster loaded with blue chip recruits and NFL prospects and went 8-5 in year 1 could have rolled into bottom feeder Indiana with a bunch of James Madison’s players and went 11-2 with losses to the 2 national finalists

You're the one who started a retarded thread about Cignetti being the best coach in the country and you're getting defensive about others saying your argument is stupid.

The whole premise of this thread is dumb. Cignetti is a fantastic coach but to think he's better than Kirby due to a short sample size is retarded.

Lol.

He is 24-2 at Indiana. Came into a legit 100+ year dogshit program at a school that hardly gave a shite about Football, brough a ton of G5 players with him, and his only losses were to last years national title game participants.

His Heisman QB was 9-10 in two seasons at Cal. Never had a rating above 144, he’s got a 182 passer rating after squaring up with 3 top 10 defenses.

I didn’t start this thread, idiot

And I wasn’t getting defensive about anything. Some jackass claimed his schedule this year was a joke and if he had played Ole Miss’s slate, he’d be fricked. I then laid out their schedules side by side and called the guy a retard, because he clearly is.

Yeah let's take a look at guys that were total dog shite at Power 4 teams and compare them to Cignetti when he got to a Power 4.

Imagine if he were 10-15 years younger. I know those extra years in age have come with experience that has helped him be the coach he is today. Even so, if he were a bit younger he might be looking at a long, legendary run.

If he was 10-15 years younger, some big program wouldn't care what the dollar figure is to get him, they'd get him.

But with his age, I think he retires at IU, which is great for them.

Pump the brakes on that. He's just a shiny new toy. He might be top 5, but he ain't the best.

This dude has Indiana.....gonna repeat,,,,,Indiana............undefeated, #1 seed overall in the playoff and their QB is about to win the Heisman.

He is the best coach in the country.

Winning at Oregon and against OSU at a neutral site this year are better than any of Lane’s wins ever.

His resume feels like a guy a bigger school should have taken a look at before Indiana did
