Rumors floating around Malkin could be shopped this summer.
Like I said earlier, Detroit radio today was addressing the subject and who we would possibly trade if we were to pursue a deal. Will be interesting.
Eff the Pens tho

True, but a more "fair" result is probably splitting these last two, putting them down 3-1 and still in a deep hole. But the Pens were outchanced by the Islanders in that series, and the Isles were a faster team that outskated the older, slower Pens. They were pretty fortunate to win that series (though I do think some veteran moxy certainly helped). If we're going by "just world" results based upon play, the Penguins probably lose to the Isles.
Really, this team had a terrible goalie (until they found Vokoun waiting around) and a porous D. That's a pretty bad formula for winning in the postseason. The offense was awesome, but as soon as it struggled a bit, they were up a creek. And credit to the Bruins, they have the best defensive forwards in the league. It's not like the Pens lost to some chumps.

I thought Engelland was the Pens' best blueliner in this series. Feint praise, but still. He's fairly young, cheap, and he hits like a truck. The Pens have a lot of chiefs.... they need some Indians.
Only having 5 guys under contract going past next year would scare the crap out of me. This is a team about to go through a massive overhaul.

I'll miss you until next season.
Say hey to the #Brinzers over there for me, made quite a few friends over this playoff run with them.

we've been here 18 months after coming from Houston. Like it a lot. Lots of cool stuff to do w/ the kids on the weekend, like the Carnegie Museums and stuff. Good sports scene, and pretty good cultural stuff as well. Weather is a nice change from the Gulf South, w/ the 4 seasons and all.
I think i've mastered the yinzer accent as well.

I could definitely see it. It could make sense for both sides (I don't just mean "Detroit", I mean any team in the NHL interested). Pens will have a difficult time re-signing him after next year. As good as he is, they could get a lot in return.
At the same time, the fact that he is a UFA next summer could also hurt his trade value, particularly since he's a Russian and the KHL threat looms over extension talks.

ETA: my little yinzer english deal is a little inaccurate, since you can't buy beer at most grocery stores in pennsylvania due to kind of complicated liquor stores. there's a handful w/ separate lunch counter type set ups inside the store that maintain a restaurant style liquor license for beer only. only problem is you have to pay for the beer separate from your groceries, and max quantity of any purchase is 2 six packs. more than that and you have to bring it to your car then come back.

One of the reasons that Detroit would be a possibility is that for once we actually have a good deal of cap space. It would require us to give up some quality prospects/young players and draft picks unfortunately, but I would love to watch Datsyuk and Malkin play together. I dream of the return of a "Russian 5"

People have actually thrown our name out there, too. We've got some quality wingers and D-men, but are lacking in centers. And we have a lot of potential pieces, particularly on D, which is what the Pens need (Ryan Murray, the No. 2 overall pick last year, Jack Johnson who was rumored as a possibility to get traded there earlier in the year, and then Ryan Johansen [center, No. 4 overall pick in 2010] and three first round picks this year).

The Pens top 3 farm players are all defensemen and pretty highly regarded. That's why they didn't care about trading away Joe Morrow, because they liked Maata, Pouliot, and Despres more.
If your best young trade pieces are on D, can pretty much dream just to dream.
I doubt Malkin leaves though, we'll see.

wow. pens got destroyed by a team who the leafs had beat 4-1 in game 7 and blew it. strange what that momentum did for the goonins.
