It’s not in the Chicago loop
Soldier Field conversation aside, here's the thing: The Loop fricking sucks. Other than weekend visitors, most everyone living in Chicago goes into The Loop for work and leave at 5:00pm. The life of Chicago (where people live, eat, drink) is in the neighborhoods, not The Loop. Having a stadium like Wrigley creates a much more authentic experience.

Arlington heights is literally 15 mins from O’Hare.

Exactly. So many people in here are clueless about Chicago. The cities heartbeat is based off the numerous neighborhoods all throughout. You’ll get totally different vibes in Wrigley vs Wicker Park vs South Loop. The Loop itself is driven by business traffic. The South Loop, while developing, doesn’t provide a ton of activity for a game experience.
As for Arlington Heights…it’s a no brainer for the Bears. AP is 15 mins from O’Hare. The Bears can own the development of hotels, sportsbooks, bars, and can host major events.
Solider Field, while historic and provides fantastic views from the south end zone, is out-dated and too small. And the Bears don’t own the fricking stadium and won’t have to deal with Elton John concerts destroying the field a week before a game ??

I hate the idea of a dome in Chicago, but it should be more accessible to folks.
If you have ever taken the El to Soldier field, it is a pretty big hike to the field from there, and the tailgating area is hardly existent....

Chicagoland is very unique in the sense that it’s fricking massive from a land perspective. Only about 2.5 Million people actually live in the city. Around 10 million people live in Chicagoland. That territory basically stretches 40+ miles to the south, west, and north of the city. SF being gridlocked against the lake essentially causes bottle necks that make getting in and out a nightmare.
Arlington will fersure need some infrastructure updates but it’s certainly not a logistical nightmare some may think.

Its a damn shame - Soldier Field is one of the most iconic stadiums in America. I saw the great Jay Cutler play there multiple times.

The Braves move to Cobb County has been wildly successful by any metric imaginable. They would not be this good if they were still playing in the middle of the hood where Turner Field is.

Uhhhhh, link?
Some of the Fox pregame guys (at least A-Rod and Frank Thomas) said The Battery was the best baseball atmosphere they had ever seen during the World Series last year.
ETA: Just realized how old the post I'm responding to is, but yeah, it has been an incredible move for the team.

How is it "desperately needed" when domed stadiums already exist in Minneapolis, Indianapolis, and Detroit?

I'm sure scumbag Kroenke would try to pretend otherwise. None of the development will benefit the fans except for the restaurants.
