Let's just be thankful MLB added a 2nd WC spot.
This season could really suck without it. Possibly when every other division and miss the playoffs.
I like you looking at the positives. I needed that perspective because I too was lamenting the fact that we've got Pitt and StL playing like they are.
It's gonna be a hell of a September.

Cubs win and get the second straight sweep

You know because he's been playing like he belongs here I haven't even given it a second thought but you're right. If miggy doesn't get hurt he likely wouldn't be up right now.

Are we really 17 games over .500 in mid-August?
Posted on 8/13/15 at 5:49 pm to TigerCub
Sure beats being 17 games under by mid-May

If we had been playing better before the trade deadline, we bolster the bullpen, which I would have liked. our bullpen is not good. big time problem

Who specifically?
Im not a huge travis wood fan, but you've got to admit he's been great since going to the bullpen
Hector Rondon might get into trouble but he also gets out of it.
Strop has been great.
Ditto with grimm.
Jason Motte right up until the deadline had been really good. And he's still not terrible.

I think that's what tommy hunter did. No more Soriano.

I'll be interested to see what the cubs do this weekend about 2b, especially with 2 lefties.
Coghlan's last 15 gams 44 ABs .182 avg. .234 OBP 1HR 3 RBI 4 SO 3 BB .273 SLG
Not that they're gonna call Baez up right now but his last 10 games aren't special: 205/295/410/706. 1 2B, 2 3B. 1 HR. 9 Ks. 5 BBs
Could trade for utley, but it sounds like he's demanding to start and wants his option for next year picked up. Even if it's just a rule 5 guy sent back in return that's pretty steep for me.
And then there's castro...who probably needs to stay on the bench.
Johnny Buckets time to shine?

If Neil Ramirez can get healthy, he will be huge

Rondon is has been very strong as of late, and we have a number of guys who can come in and shutdown a game. Cubs have also won 25 1 run games.
Does anything less than a 3 run lead still make me nervous? Sure, it's the Cubs. They have made efforts to "bolster" the pen by adding Tommy Hunter, a very capable reliever whom I think will be just fine, despite a couple of rough outings to start.

This too.
I guess i'm just not seeing the "big problem" with the pen.

Rondon is 10 for his last 10 in save opps
That can't be right, due the miggy walk off game 2 nights ago. But i take your point. He's been good.

Exactly. I think it's ingrained in us to fear the worst. Even if we had a shut down guy like chapman we'd still expect chaos.

You're right, my mistake, prior to that he was 10/10. Referenced an article prior to that game.
Posted on 8/14/15 at 7:38 am to piggidyphish
He was 10 for 10 before the BS two nights ago.
Bullpen has 5th best ERA in NL. The struggled mightily to start the season, but have been great since.

This serves no purpose but just a for fun call back to our july reds series banter thread
Looks like the cubs only have 12 wins left this season...
quote:
The "shitty" Reds are kicking that arse. The Cubs are starting that spiral towards about 77-85. A team with Coghlan and Denorfia logging playing time ain't going nowhere. The Reds should be looking at a 4 game sweep(darn you JJ Hoover). Piss on the ugly no undershirt wearing POS Cubs. Let's sweep this DH Reds and start the Cubs spiral to where they rightfully belong.
