I'm still giving deference to what sadaveh (i know i butchered that spelling) said about what they're working on with baez. That basically it's not about what situations exist on the bases, but what he's supposed to look for. So for srikes 1 and 2 he's only to swing if it what he wants then try to protect on strike 3.

now i realize that is really burring my head in the sand. But i want someone to out drive glen allenhill at wrigley and baez is the guy that can do that.

In all seriousness, I agree. Maddon isn't going to put up with lousy at bats with guys on third and less than 2 outs. He needs to cut down on those whiffs.

Lake "Respect[ing] 90"

and he's out of the game after being hit (somehow) by brandon phillips. Who no doubt then bitched about darwin barney's gold glove, proceeded to be unlikable, and then likely didn't offer lake any condolences.

I know that's partly tongue in cheek...but he better learn, because the logjam is going to be real, and soon.

I know the whole "logjams are a good thing" saying, but it's going to be tight.

Yea, it is. But I still don't think he'll stick there. And i'm hoping that's because he's crushing the ball, we're in a playoff push (not this year mind you), and he's not ready to catch but that bat will play and he's brought up.

5 games into spring training...OVERREACTION time.

0-5 This team is doomed.

Baez has 8 Ab's, no hits, and 4 K's.

Schwarber has been catching...to mixed results.

Respect 90 has really taken hold (hope that continues so that way we don't have to go down that road of do the beat writers only call it lazy when it's a latin player, because it happens every year).

Bryant has hit a HR.

Solar still has a great arm.

Fowler looks fine.

Ultimately nothing has happened and Wellington is still on the team.

Olt has 2 homeruns.

Really liked when Schwarber hit a lazy pop up and busted his arse out of the box and made it all the way to third base when the ball was dropped. That never happens.

not half as important as his K/BB ratio being even right now.

Hopefully he can show off enough to garner some trade interest. While i'm certainly not convinced that braynt can stick at 3b he's going to come up and play there by late april (probably sooner). Granted i'm on team coghlan, but I don't see Olt being able to be an OF.

Yea that was good to see as it is that "well that's what happens if" scenario. Wit that said...dogging it out of the box really doesn't bother me. 99% of the time the play is made and no harm comes of it.

I have half a boner just hearing that the cubs are getting hits with guys on base in one spring training game.

It's not a point guard in basketball playing forty minutes without a breather. It's effing baseball...where guys "need" to run a total of just under two minutes per game. They should be busting it out of the box 100% of the time.

I understand you wanting them to because 'what if' or 'look how much they're paid' or as you said they don't have to do it but ever so rarely, but it really doesn't matter to me. Wanting them to do it is different than them needing to. I personally don't care because the play is almost always made (this is out of the box...not turning a double off the wall into a single because you stared it down). I want them to do it just so i don't hear about castro being lazy but when rizzo does it was just a mental lapse in a long season.
