Why are people going on and on about that timeout? Did they put time back in the clock or something? He called it with three seconds left
Because it was San Diego saying if we stop you we're gonna try and score and not just take the tie. So Vegas changed their strategy to, ok, now we have to try and win. Staley fricked his own team.

I don't think they called timeout with 4 seconds on the play clock for that. We'll know for sure after postgame interviews but I'm guessing LAC had fricked up their personnel for the play. Maybe not but seemed like it.

Extremely low risk of that happening.
Somebody can verify but it looks like it has only happened about 40 times since 1994.
I think the Raiders were comfortable taking their chances on that one, if it meant dodging the Chiefs next week.

With or without the timeout, do they just run the ball and get into reasonable FG range like they did? Almost certainly. And then they'd have done the exact same thing: Let a great kicker have a chance to win it.
There was under 40 on the game clock and it was 3rd down. They were likely gonna take a knee or an off tackle throwaway play and let it run out.

There’s no way he was saying we’re trying to get the ball back to score. He was trying to set up his defense to get a stop to not allow them an easy FG for the win. If they stopped them, they are still within 52 yardish FG range or punt and pin them on their own 10 with 20 seconds.

They were going to run the ball. They weren't in a victory formation.

Most games I would agree. This woulda been unprecedented and always fun to see some absolutely crazy shite happen like we coulda seen tonight.

Nah, I think most people hate ties.
this situation is completely different
most ties seem to have no immediate major implications
this 1 had some of the most serious implications a NFL season might have... including a team not even taking part in the game trying to get to bed that's instead watching this game b/c the only way they don't get into the playoffs is by this game ending in a tie

Yes, they were. The timeout did not change that...the run to the 29-yard line did.

Yeah the gentlemen's agreement went out the window.
Raiders thinking, shite if we kneel they have 35 seconds left. Not calling TO would've implied a nonverbal agreement. Raiders were just falling on the ball basically.
Chargers don't call T.O. run a goal line defense. Game ends in a tie.
Regardless, best game of the year.

Raiders coached confirmed that the time out made them change their strategy. Chargers coach claimed that time out was called to get best run defense personel on the field. To me though that sounds like a cop out because the Raiders had already ran the ball the first two plays. Why didn't you have your best run defense on the field then?
Also coaches in the NFL in general are starting to confuse coaching aggressively with coaching stupidly. Going for it on 4th and 2 on your opponents 18 yard line is coaching aggressively. Going for it on 4th and 2 on your 18 yard line is coaching stupidly.

I just woke up to this. Went to bed when game seemed over. Cannot believe they came back from down 15 and then this happened. Oh well. Really hate the Steelers so wish this had happened.

It shows the other teams attempt to get the ball back. Chargers could've easily run a goal line defense and acquiesced.
