Last week a fan ran on the field at a Canadian Football League game and was flattened by Marcell Young, a defensive back for the B.C. Lions. Now that fan says Young injured him, and he has hired a lawyer.

The fan’s lawyer released a statement saying he “suffered serious injuries, including a mild traumatic brain injury, as a result of being violently struck by BC Lions player Marcell Young.”

The fan was fined $115 for trespassing. He obviously didn’t belong on the field, although the CFL (and the NFL, and any sports league) would probably prefer that players let security handle it, rather than get involved in apprehending runaway fans themselves. In the days of Mike Curtis, a player could get away with decking a fan. But these days, fans can be quite litigious.

Glad to see it is not just America that is overly litigious.

I would hope the court tells him to eat a dick. He assumed the risk of being lit up when he stepped on the field.

Dude was just defending himself. There's no telling what someone crazy enough to streak a CFL game is capable of.

I think since the Monica Seles thing, anyone that goes on the field during play should be an open target for whatever violence may come to them.

Since this is Canada of all places, I assume he'll be awarded massive damages glad I live in America where common sense mostly prevails

I wish they would just use snipers to pick them off instead.

The player just needs to say he felt threatened

Not really...not by a player with pads and a helmet. He's not a football player...just because a person is on the field doesn't mean they are part of the game and fair game to get lit up by a 300 pound lineman. If a ball girl runs out there to retreive a dropped water bottle is she now fair game and assuming the risk?

First off, let the security officials handle it. They aren't massive Pro athletes that can seriously injure someone.

And if you can sue cops for excessive force such as violently throwing you to the ground during an arrest, you can certainly sue a Pro football player who has no business tackling anyone but the other guys with pads and helmets on.

Yes really. Yes by a player with pads and a helmet. If you don't want to get hit by a player, don't break the rules and enter the field of play. There are giant, armored men who get paid to be violent roaming around out there. You risk being hit by one of them if you break the rules and enter their work space.

Guy shouldn't have been on the field, but they have security guards for that. I get the point about being concerned for your safety, but that guy wasn't making a move at the player and that was a pretty savage hit. As soon as I saw it, I knew we'd see a lawsuit.

That’s kinda like running into a gunfight and getting mad you got shot.

An attention whore wanting more attention.
