Good call by Dilly taking his starters out. Don't give the committee any more reasons to justify keeping them at 12.

Because of that bullshite targeting call that totally flipped the momentum, Iowa State is gonna make this game look close.

what's he supposed to avoid contact? How do you sack a QB today? Gently hug his belly?

The rule is absolutely bullshite, It never shouldve been implemented and the world would be a better place if "targeting" where not a part of the vernacular of football. I can not stress enough how much I hate it.

But that hit went beyond targeting. It wasn't a bang bang play into a ball carrier or WR making a catch. He lined the QB up (fine in itself, but context matters), he threw his arms back and ducked his head at impact while launching. (although I HATE its a thing) Even if the QB doesn't duck he still hits him in the head area, He then drove the dude into the ground helmet to helmet.

Hell, there was a chance this was a penalty in the age before slow motion replay ruined violence for everyone. All he had to do was to go in with his shoulder slightly lower.

No he didn’t

1. But he did duck, which is the crux of the play
2. No he wouldn’t. He would have hit him in the back, because the qb wasn’t facing him when he committed to the hit

Oh bullshite, the QB isn't defenseless, he sees him coming a mile away.

I never said he was defenseless. Its part of the dumbass rule, but it has nothing to do why I thought it was targeting.

The two guys are the same height, helmets are going to collide on a sack.

A lot of players are the same height. QB's get sacked every game without helmets colliding. He knows the rule better than you and I and he could've gone just slightly lower and lead with his shoulder not helmet. This was blatant by any definition of the rule AND totally avoidable.

Miami OH got completely embarrassed today. That was just an awful effort.

Plus it's natural instinct to duck your head into your shoulder. Dumb rule is dumb

Is there a chance UGA drops out with a blowout loss to UT? Going from possible 2 seed to out seems unlikely.

Becht clearly turns his head into the defender at the last second.

He did, but the defender was going to hit him helmet to helmet regardless.

You are asking these guys to defy physics in hundredths of seconds at full speed.

Agree which is why I hate the rule. It is completely asinine they do not consider the hypocrisy when they have to use super slow-motion to make a judgement.

quote:

I guess he could have gone in and speared him in the lower half and given him a career ending knee injury to avoid being ejected.

He couldve lead with his shoulder slightly lower and not been penalized, or been cleared in a review. Something officials have been doing at pleasantly suprising rate this season.

quote:

The rule is insane and how about we put some agency on the offensive players.

Agree completely. However in this case, I don't think the QB did anything that caused the contact to be any worse than it would've been otherwise.

quote:

We see targeting here and on awful throws over the middle where the qb hangs their receiver out to dry.

Not the same thing imo. Especially in this case. To your point of putting "agency on the offensive player" I personally do not believe targeting should ever be called on a catch or ball carrier unless it is blatantly late. Even then, an ejection is ridiculous. Punishment rolling over to the next game is laughable and borderline unethical.

Of course he did, you have already admitted that multiple times

Good point he made about how their team should be looked at like they’re 11-1.
