re: Cavs fire David Blatt; Lue to take over

Is this the thread where everyone finally admits I've been right about Lebron all these years? Dude's a fraud.

remember, if it wasn't for Lue, Blatt would have probably called for an illegal timeout at the end of a tie game, and cost the Cavs the game to go down 3-2 to the Bulls.
I mean Chris Weber was only a 20-year-old sophomore when he made that same error, and they were at least down (rather than tied). And this is still considered one of the biggest blunders in sports history.
I think Blatt is a good coach, but he was thrust into a position that would be tough for any first time coach.
Last year, even during the playoffs, many of the posters were (unfairly IMO) criticizing Blatt, calling him an incompetent fool. Now in fairness, many of the more well-read NBA fans (RTR, Ron, etc. ) weren't so critical of Blatt--so they've been consistent.
That being said, now EVERYBODY is critical of this move (which I agree with), not just those that were more supportive of him last year. SO the ironic part is that this also includes the posters who were, in the middle of the finals run, calling him an incompetent fool. Yet, they sit there and act flabbergasted and appalled. It's so strange.
Well put. I agree.

ZOMG, he almost made a mistake! They got to finals and have the best record in the east. On top of which, they fired a guy who has a whole career behind him and respect worldwide in favor a mediocre point guard with no HC experience. There is a reason people are outraged. Lack of NBA experience/in over his head was always going to be this bitch crew's excuse/out for Blatt. There will always be something.

Cavs win & all shall be forgotten. Magic publicly demanded to be traded & Dr Buss fired Paul Westhead the very next morning( Westhead had won a ring already with the Lakers/ Magic & were on a 5 or 6 game win streak).
The Coach Magic Johnson got fired is just a random Jeopardy/ trivia question or ' oh yeah' today.
Not 100% clear that Lebron had him fired.

Coaches around the league are indirectly laying in to Lebron and Gilbert.

quote:It would have been considered one of, the biggest blunders in sports history. Regardless, I'm just highlighting where Lue showed awareness in a stressful situation, when Blatt didn't. I'm just hoping that's a positive sign of Lue's coaching prowess.
ZOMG, he almost made a mistake!
quote:And Blatt has done a good, if imperfect (expectedly for a new coach), job. I'm not saying otherwise.
They got to finals and have the best record in the east.
quote:I give you the HC experience, but being a mediocre PG, is irrelevant. I'm not sure why you brought that up.
in favor a mediocre point guard with no HC experience.
quote:Sure. It was a strange decision. BUT some of it is also probably because of LeBron, regardless of his involvement. If it was just about letting a good coach go too soon, then there would have been more outrage about McHale's firing considering the success he had.
There is a reason people are outraged
More telling is that some (not all) of the outraged, were calling Blatt incompetent and calling for him to be let go, in the middle of the finals run. Clearly their outrage isn't because of their opinion of Blatt, if the finals run wasn't impressive enough.

quote:First of all, when it comes to getting the "scoop," Woj may be the best we've ever seen, in any sport. AND I think there is a lot of truth in that article. It's no secret that Lebron wasn't a fan of Blatt and wanted somebody else. I'm sure we've all had bosses or coworkers that we prefer, AND if we had the power to advocate for change, we would. SO it's a bit hypocritical, to call someone a POS, because of that alone.
The Woj article is basically telling us what we already assumed. We all know LeBron is a POS
In addition, as great as Woj is as a "scoop reporter," his lengthier "more journalistic" pieces are often unnecessarily opinionated and biased. THIS LINK provides a good synopsis on the good and the bad of Woj reporting.
quote:
If you look closely at his columns and talk to people in the NBA, you discover that he mixes his reporting and opinion writing in improper ways, rewarding sources with flattery and punishing the uncooperative with nastiness.
quote:And if you've followed Lebron/Woj over the years, you can see that he has a clear negative bias (not all unfounded) against Lebron. THIS LINK and THIS LINK provide a number of examples
In fact, it often appears as though Adrian Wojnarowski lets his sourcing dictate not just the topic but also the tone of his writing.
quote:
A week after “The Decision,” Wojnarowski wrote a 4,000 word ticktock assuredly describing how James came to choose Miami, a stunning act of hubris. His reporting on LeBron James was consistently sloppy and poorly sourced, yet Wojnarowski had the audacity to present his piece as the definitive account. With just two quotes from anonymous sources and a history of being wrong about James, it doesn’t deserve to be treated as reliable.
quote:It appears that much of that stem's from his inability to get sources close to the most popular and polarizing player on the planet. I think it's natural that the most well connected reporter is frustrated by this.
Those within the league think Wojnarowski’s criticism of LeBron stems from reporting failures. “I don’t know if LeBron’s whole camp or just LeBron shafted [Wojnarowski], but [Wojnarowski] was having trouble getting to him,” a former team employee he tried to cultivate as a source told me.
Now this brings us to the recent column, where we see facts and opinion converge. For example:
quote:Here Woj provides his opinion that Griffin's management skills precluded him from making a poor decision (I agree). YET, when THIS decision is made, Griffin's involvement is missing and the blame lies solely on Lebron and his camp. Now a year and half later, Griffin has more experience as a GM, and has made some great moves (Mosgov, Smith, Shumpert, Mo Williams).
David Griffin is too well-connected in the NBA, too knowledgeable of the truths inside Jackson's Warriors regime to let that happen.
Griffin also refused to acquiesce to Lebron and his camp during the offseason, when a dismissal of Blatt would have probably been seen as more acceptable with FAR less backlash. Did he now lose the competence and strong-will that earned Woj's praise earlier in the piece (and shown in other deals)? If not, even putting aside Lebron's views, MAYBE there were some legitimate reasons to make the move.
Of course, since the piece is solely on Lebron's selfishness and ineptitude, Griffin's positives are presented WHEN he stood up to Lebron, yet Griffin is completely absent in the final 3/4th of the article, when he's criticizing Lebron's involvement.
And of course, with the most sourced reporter, his most powerful paragraphs are absent a single source and ripe with abstraction. This goes back to where his tendency to conflate his facts with his opinion. This is a good example.
quote:Practice sessions, which could have been left out completely, highlights this. Does he consistently attend practice sessions to be able to observe this increase? If not, he would have to get that from a source who was there, yet he not only doesn't cite one, he doesn't even allude to one. Again, it may be a throwaway comment, but it sounds like a throwaway comment based on biased conjecture, not from a source or objective observations.
James had become increasingly vocal in his opposition of Blatt in recent practice sessions and game environments.
So in the end, the general gist of the article is probably true. The problem is that, as we've seen from posters in this thread, Woj's tendency to take the truth and interject his BIASED OPINION results in the details people latch onto as if they are factual.

The NBA, does coaching really matter? Look at GS. Luke Walton at the helm and they start out on fire. Is it because he's a great coach? Then you go to San Antonio and it's all Pop, allegedly. Is Phil Jackson really that good of a coach or was it because he had great teams? Former video guy led Miami to a championship or was it the Big 3 and Riley behind the scenes? I think in college coaching matters but the NBA not so much.

So the solution to the offensive woes is to run up to the 3 pt line and chuck shots....Warriors in 5

I don't think they are going to play the Warriors in the Finals.

If Chicago was a little bit better, they'd be up by at least 20

Yeah, Cleveland isn't very sharp tonight.
This would be a bad time for a Cavs slump.
