Cause praying to the football gods your conference peers will lose so you have an ice cubes chance in hell of winning something sounds like a recipe for satisfaction.
Imagine a Cowboys fan cheering on the Eagles to win the Super Bowl. Or a Red Sox fan cheering on the Yankees to win a World Series.

Also it’s 2023

He didn't make the argument well. After 2004 Auburn, it made some sense to hope whatever SEC team got in did well, so in the situation your team was the bubble team, you got the conference benefit of a doubt.
It's been many many years since that's been relevant.

Because had the SEC been stronger in 2004 - Auburn is in OU out.
An SEC team won the BCS Title over OU the year before. Auburn was out because they started the season lower and well someone had to be out.

It was really only applicable for the #2 seed. And you're right, LSU was the #2 that year, but as someone else stated the best SEC team was spreading around back then, so it felt like if you were a top half team it would work out for you eventually.
Then it just stopped mattering altogether for various reasons.

Unless you watched before 2000 you might not understand. SEC has had the rep for sometime and it's not necessary to constantly pull for you conference now.

I would never root for UGA in the playoffs but it's a good look when SEC teams win their regular season OOC games.

Because it just means more??? frick the SEC.

The whole “SEC Pride” shite is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen as a fan.
18-20 years ago, the SEC was always the underdog to the big 10 and pac 10. SEC teams pulled for each other to help elevate the conference. That shite ain’t needed today. frick bama.

Honestly it's your duty.

But don't you have Alabama friends? I root for the tide for their happiness in situations like this

I have never and will never cheer for Alabama or Texas A&M.
The rest of the SEC schools I am open minded to pulling for in a game that doesn’t matter just to increase my interest.

Because I hate the Big 10 more than I hate Alabama. Especially that arrogant, smug, cheater Harbaugh!

I did cheer on SEC for a year of so and realized that when the other teams win, we lose in recruiting. So it's LSU or no one in SEC for me

You shouldn’t because it doesn’t matter. We all know as an LSU fan you will bitch about the referees. Don’t take that from yourself because that is all you have and most here want LSU fans to whine and cry. It makes us warm at heart to have Tiger fans not cheer for the rest of the SEC. We are used to y’all being crybabies and hope yall will get better as a team and fans.

I am not openly cheering for Bama, if anything I’m rooting for Harbaugh and Michigan to win the whole thing as a massive frick you to everyone for the “cheating” scandal, but I’m not naive enough to say that I don’t understand why other SEC teams would want to see other SEC teams have success. It shows superiority and affirms that we have the most difficult path. It affirms in everyone else’s mind what we all know and many hate to see, and that is that the SEC is far and away the most talented and deep conference top to bottom every single year. This built in bias can and does help a school like LSU, by association, going forward. It helps with recruiting, revenue, primetime TV slots, transfers, etc.
Do people really not understand that a member of the same conference winning a championship benefits LSU in the long run?

But that’s not true. It may effect and even flip a recruit or two per cycle, but we still greatly benefit from associated with the SEC and it’s greatness. Do you think LSU would recruit at the same level if we would have left the SEC and joined the Big 12 a few years ago? Why do you think Texas wants to come to the SEC?

OP is melting hard today.
This logic is pretty easy to understand and every major analyst has talked about it for about 20 years now during the SEC reign of dominance.
The stronger the conference is, the better it is for all the teams in the conference. It's why the SEC has gotten two teams in the playoff before. It's more TV ratings, draws better recruits etc. The more support you give the better.
Everyone, no matter how much you actually hate Bama, should have been cheering for Bama against Texas. If Bama had won that game, we'd be looking at Bama and Georgia in the playoff right now.
The better Georgia does, the more UF can recruit based on a need to get better to reach parity with Georgia. Same logic applies to Auburn recruiting to catch up to Bama, or Ole Miss and Miss St, or back when UF was good and other teams wanted to catch up to them. The better teams get, the hungrier you have to be to catch them. In turn you get better. There is a spillover effect.
Anyone that can't understand this logic should just stop commenting about CFB.
This perpetual melt, especially over a shite FSU program, is very strange. And now it's spilling over into other topics. It's like the CFB world had a psychological break - over FSU.
Do people not remember or know about the 80s and 90s when FSU specifically stayed away from the SEC so they would have an easier time of it? Well, karma is a real bitch. Staying in the ACC cost them this year. Playing a garbage team in their CCG cost them this year. In the past, FSU was always highly ranked and if they looked like garbage against a garbage ACC team it never hurt them. They would just wait until a team above them, with a tougher schedule, dropped a game, while they coasted through that garbage can conference slate. Bowden admitted all of this. And now it's cost them. Boo hoo hoo, poor little FSU played a crap schedule, looked like crap against a middle of the road Louisville team, and they rightfully got tossed out of consideration for the best 4 teams.
FSU got exactly what it deserved. And if they were in, it would have no effect other than to deliver an easy win for someone in the semi-final. They are not a title contender.
Back when an FSU player got caught breaking the law and Bowden refused to punish him, he said, "it's not like he shot the president or something"...well, same goes for the playoff committee. So they left out FSU, it's not like they shot the president or something. Leave them alone. Karma is a real bitch for programs like FSU. Years and years of acting like douchebags, deliberately trying to injure opponents, and staying in a weak conference has come back to hurt them. People paid attention all that time and took notes. Karma for FSU. That's what happened here.
And if you're not cheering for these SEC teams when they are OOC then you're only hurting your own team. There was a time when SEC fans understood this concept. I don't know if we're seeing a mirror of society at large or what, but this divisiveness when the SEC is OOC is not good for any of our teams.
Roll Tide and win this playoff.

Thankfully "cheering" doesn't make a difference. But don't bitch when LSU's strength of schedule slips.
