Brett Favre. Although his low level understanding of the sport is probably a bit overblown but him not knowing what a cover 2 defense in his rookie season is an example

Patrick Mahomes not knowing how to ID a Mike Linebacker his rookie year, but I imagine he can now

You asked why we were talking about UNDERSTANDING SPORTS when the thread is literally about UNDERSTANDING SPORTS.

I know people rag on you here for being an idiot but time and time again you continue to prove why everyone is correct.

Not that I'm agreeing with the op because a basic understanding must be present in order to even play the game. That said, Randy Moss is a great example of, "throw him out there and see what happens". Only understanding he needed was "go deep" and success would've followed. That said, Moss has a great understanding of the game, he just didn't have the work ethic of some of the other "greats".

Gronk might be an example.

He had Brady to tell him what to do and where to go.

There was a guy. One college coach literally called him the stupidest son of a bitch alive. All he knew was just to run fast and had to be told where to go.

Was HOF caliber if not for military service diverting his career path into ping pong, shrimping, investing and cross country running.

I think a little clarification would be needed. A guy needs to understand his position on at least an instinctual level though he may not be able to express that or teach it to others.

And the sport may determine some of that. I think a guy can be an HOFer and not really comprehend his sport as a whole outside of his particular responsibility in football for sure. Baseball and basketball are a little different but I think a guy can have HOF skills without having a very good knowledge of the overall game. If he is on the right teams that may be masked during his career.

There’s a poster here who claimed the following:

You can be a genetic freak, be lazy and never really understand the game you’re playing yet still be HOF level in that sport.

I think if a guy is lazy, he will not last that long in most professional sports, he may play at an HOF level for a short while but the lazy will catch up with him quickly when he is playing against other HOF and near HOF level players. And I think truly lazy players rarely make it past the collegiate or minor league levels.

It’s like you’re trying to use the Socratic method but not going past the first question. Asking the same question over and over again will just piss everyone off. And pissing everyone off seems to be your objective here so congrats on another shite thread.

I mean, ok lol

I’m just putting in writing what people are kinda saying but not really saying. And then when they see it actually written out, nobody really owns up to the claim.

This ain’t hard lol
