Kentucky coach John Calipari said Wednesday he isn't going to coach the New York Knicks or any other NBA franchise for the foreseeable future.

"Kentucky is the best job in basketball coaching," Calipari said. "Why would I leave? We just won the national title. We're chasing UCLA."

Kentucky's title win over Kansas on Monday night in New Orleans gave the school eight national men's basketball titles, three short of UCLA's all-time record of 11.

Calipari said no NBA team has contacted him about an opening, including the Knicks, which are being coached by Mike Woodson on an interim basis after Mike D'Antoni was fired.

So now we can put that to rest.

Do we really need to run down the looooooooooooooooooooooong list of coaches who have said almost exactly the same thing only to jump ship soon after?

I will admit this though.

He's right about that. I'm just not sure his ego will allow him to accept it. Something about these coaches just pulls them to the highest level, even when it's totally imprudent to jump. But his skill set is perfect for college and he's paid pro money to do what he's great at. He's like Nick Saban with charm.

He's already tried the NBA though. He isn't like most coaches looking to get their feet wet in professional coaching for the first time.

He already has a top 5 recruiting class coming in, will likely finish with at least two of Shabazz, Noel and Anthony Bennett, and adds Ryan Harrow which would likely make them preseason No. 1 The guy knows how to make a group of freshman into a very productive team. No reason for him to leave

That sound similar to what Saban said before the Cap One bowl...

All the more reason for an NBA offer to pull on his ego a bit. He was a massive failure at the highest level--the pros. He's accomplished great things and proven himself at the college level. The fact that he flopped in the pros has gotta mess with his ego.

Hopefully, for his sake, his practical side wins out and he sticks to what he's good at.

Why would he? He would lose his advantage of players getting paid 5 and 6 figures.
