They already showed this by keeping SMU in field last season.
Smu was 11-2 after their conf loss
Bama was 9-3. SMU still had the record record
That isn’t remotely the same as bama being 10-3 and Miami being 10-2, a better record
Smu also lost on a walk off FG. You are telling us UGA winning by 17 still wouldn’t make bama drop a single spot

Alabama is currently 10th. The last spot to earn a potential bid. You're telling me they could lose and not drop in a ranking? I don't believe it.

As much as I hate them, it's kind of messed up if they get penalized for playing an extra game.
They’ve benefited more than once of not playing in it. One time, the team that beat them lost in the conference championship and then Alabama got to go instead of them.
No compassion from a reasonable person.

“But that was 12 teams!!!’”
The logic is the logic. Either humans think you can be penalized for a conf champ or not. Clearly the committee has no issue penalizing teams for it

Either everyone needs to be or nobody needs to be.
The fact that it applies to certain teams is what makes it bullshite.

Bama will absolutely fall with a loss outside of a very close hard fought loss

don't see how Alabama gets in with a loss period.
They will not be jumped by teams whom do not play in conference title games.
That’s why they were left out last year, SMU was ahead of them prior to the conference title game and remained so afterwards despite losing.
Now BYU winning takes a spot away from at large teams, but Duke doesn’t as there will be 5 conference champions getting in regardless of who they are and I do not believe both Miami and Notre Dame will get in as an at large regardless of conference championship game outcomes.

They will not fall behind teams that don’t play this weekend.

The committee has penalized teams for losing conference champ games and let a team sitting at home jump them
Who?

Who?
Was ranked 4th. Lost in big 10 champ game and fell out of playoffs and replaced by bama who didn’t play conf champ
Auburn. Ranked 3rd. Lost in SEC champ games and you guessed it, replaced by bama who sat at home (and lost to Auburn 8 days before)
Also, just last year, SMU fell behind a team that didn’t play conf champ week.
This “teams can’t be penalized for a conf champ game” is completely made up based on past occurrences

No, we'll be in as long as it's not a blowout as we should be.

So you kick out #5 Texas Tech for the same thing ??? I just dont see a world where Texas Tech doesn't get in over Bama

If BYU wins and Bama loses, Bama is out.
And that is the only scenario where Bama is out.
This. BYU winning eliminates the final at large spot, whoever is sitting in it really wants Texas Tech

I dont see how you dont reward BYU for beating #5 Texas Tech...

You right It would be between Tech and Bama at that point

Is Bama left out in this scenario?
Based on the current rankings, yes. But I would not be stunned to see Bama jump Notre Dame this Tuesday.
ESPN controls the playoff. ESPN broadcasts the SEC championship which is a more valuable game than all of the first round playoff games based on ratings. They can create justification for dropping ND based on Pitt and A&M losing.
Historically teams have dropped for losing in their conference title game, but no one discussed eliminating these games until the 12 team era.
It’s possible BYU winning and Bama losing would drop Bama out. But I think that’s the only way Bama misses, and I also think the committee may drop Notre Dame instead to protect the cash cow SEC title game.
