Taking a stand/knee is dumb 99% of the time
Posted on 8/26/20 at 3:46 pm to SCLibertarian
The issue is that all of this shite is fabricated. From Colin to the Bucks, it's all orchestrated and fake.
Everyone has been encouraged to "take a stand" regardless of whether there is something to "take a stand" for. Be opinionated, whether you know anything or not!
It's been a long time coming (and certainly doesn't apply only to black athletes). The idea of living a quiet life and ignoring noise by people who want to sell you something your co-opt you into their movement is looked down upon.

This is where wording matters. It's a lost art.
I don't think it's safe to say that police are purposely seeking out minorities like it's a game to see who can get a kill first. I also don't believe that cops are perfect and reform isn't necessary because it is.
It's just neither easy nor fair for any of us, behind our keyboards, to sit here and said one is right and one is wrong. The world doesn't work that way.
Fact: Jacob Blake was convicted of multiple felonies and was there to harm a woman. Fact: He should have complied. Fact: He shouldn't have been shot 7 times.
All of those can be true at the same time. The problem we, as a society, have is that we rush to judgment before allowing facts to percolate. That also means we have to trust the media for which, justifiably, we do not.
So, again, what does boycotting a NBA game solve? In the grand scheme? Nothing. This is not going to be the epiphany to police officers everywhere to stop shooting. It's not going to be the epiphany to the media to stop pushing an agenda.
What needs to happen is dialogue at home, in the community, where change can take place.

I'll consider them "taking a stand" when it hits that pocket book. Until then, they're just laying out of work on company time.

I think you have to cancel. Integrity of the game has been ruined.

Sick whataboutism though
Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere, right?

If someone named dequan shot this dude nobody would ever even known. Black lives only matter if another race kills them

And I'm going to take a really wild guess and say that letting spoiled children breach agreements and contracts on false premises isn't a great "business savvy" move.
You’re being extremely short sighted.
1 game is bad. If they won’t play anymore that’s a different story.
You don’t pay them their game checks and HOPE they decide play Game 6 before you have to make a real decision.

I could see tomorrow’s teams boycotting as well so everyone can have their say, then back to business on friday.

This is more entertaining than the game itself.

I appreciate your tone and thoughtfulness, but I think you're wrong.
Police reform is a valid effort. But the entire premise is flawed. Relative to other threats - the risk black people face in encounters with police is small. I face more threat walking through a black neighborhood than an unarmed black man does in a police stop. Black people face much higher risk of harm in many of their own neighborhoods. Now I agree the arm of the state is held to a higher standard, but let's be clear about the threats/risks. There is no epidemic of unarmed, peaceful black men being murdered by cops. The "movement" based on this claim is still throwing around slogans that were debunked years ago (hands up don't shoot!). There is so much false narrative woven into this movement that you can't even begin to get to the truth for the purpose of discussion.
As for Blake, we can discuss the appropriateness of handling, but I don't agree it's a fact he shouldn't have been shot. If it turns out to be true that he had felony warrants (which the police knew about), fought with the cops and then ignored commands and reached into his vehicle, I'm not sure how we can say he shouldn't have been shot.
I agree on dialogue. But we are so far away from having a neutral/objective set of rules to have that dialogue that asking for dialogue seems like a waste of time (although I admire your commitment to it).
The only way we get out of this shite is if people start telling the truth. And very few people are doing that right now.

So is Lebron gonna follow suit or show everyone once again he’s all about himself and chasing a ring?
