I read today that they are telling potential investors that they are going to stay under luxury tax for the next couple of years. I don't think they can sign Harper and do that.

how does that fit with Yanks sending Stanton to LA to make room for Harper?

I think the Phillies make the most sense. I'll say 10 years total, player option to opt out after 7 years at the age of 32.

dodgers have 170 million committed to 2019 and the luxury threshold is going to be like 206 million. and thats before we get into yasmani and ryu possibly both going somewhere else and freeing up another almost 40 million after we no longer are on the hook for their qualifying offers. the dodgers have enough flexibility to make a harper deal happen and stay under the threshold while also dealing with our arbitration guys. i also question the sincerity of them looking to stay under the tax for another four years. the whole point last winter was getting under it for this winter

While Harper is a stud, the Dodgers have a ton of money tied up in 5 guys or so. If they sign Harper I have to believe their depth will suffer bigly

Doyers have the money. Does he want to be in the same city as Trout?

bellinger still has another year until he reaches arbitration
buehler still has two
urias still has two
seager is juuuuuuuust getting into arbitration

most of the real foundational pieces are still relatively cheap and will be for another couple of years
