"We're getting ready to announce Huskers and Big 10 football tonight" - University of Nebraska president Walter E. "Ted" Carter Jr. on a hot mic.

Gotta crank the volume up to hear it, but it is clearly audible when you do.

quote:

Okay, EVERYBODY REMAIN CALM ... but U. of Nebraska president Ted Carter may have just spilled the beans on the return of the Big Ten football season ... saying an announcement is coming Tuesday night!!!

The revelation was made via a hot mic at a presser minutes ago ... when Carter was speaking with the University's National Strategic Research Institute director.

"We're getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight," Carter said.

"Oh really?!," Bob Hinson said. "I heard that that was happening."

So how is this going to work playoff wise if the Big 10 comes back but starts later?

Just like every other year, Ohio State will be the only impacted team.

There’s usually a long layoff between end of regular season and bowls. I guess Ohio State won’t get that benefit.

think as long as they play all games before committee vote it shouldn't matter

My guess is they will play a 7 or 8bgame schedule from mid October through mid December and be declared playoff eligible.

Committee will delay to vote until their season ends.

So now there will only be 2 SEC teams in the playoff instead of 3.

I think they can make the current schedule by a day or so - without any delay.

If they've been practicing, seems possible to start October 3rd and play a 10 game schedule with one bye week ending December 12. They could play a championship Dec 19 which would end their season the same week as the SEC.

Of course that's all dependent on if this one of the 100 rumors about Big 10 playing football is true

What is the earliest they could realistically start at this point?

November 1st?

Gotcha. My posted was based on the assumption all teams were practicing.

In that case, I don't see it happening.
