ESPN just reported they offered him 14 M of 17 guaranteed and rest was to be paid through 5 years (550k/year)

If this is true Bosa comes across looking bad.

Just give him the other 3 million. The chargers are the only team that operates like this

I'm not understanding this without context.

Isn't the #3 slot is due to get $25 million over four years? The renegotiation of rookie deals (downward significantly) pretty much took away much player or team flexibility. The Chargers can't give less, he can't get more.

So there's no greed issue to be had on either the part of the team or the rookie in terms of money that could be offered.

What is different about the Chargers offer from other teams is their demands for offset language. So, in a system designed to control rookie pay, the Chargers are still finding a way to make it harder to sign their players... just like they did with Tomlinson, Merriman, Jammer, Rivers, etc when there was more to negotiate.

Context is they offered him 85% of contract guaranteed and its higher than any other players signing bonus

Bosa balked at it wanted more guaranteed maybe. They (Some talking head, Edwards, and Woody) crushed Bosa.

That's the way it's being reported by them on NFL Live.

Statement from Bosa's camp:

quote:

It is unfortunate the San Diego Chargers have decided to manipulate facts and negotiate in the media. The team surely is not strengthening its relationship with Joey Bosa by taking this stance and making their position public.

We have decided that we will not engage in public negotiations or discuss numbers and/or terms in this negotiation.

We will say, that it is ironic that the team now takes issue with the timing of Joey’s arrival, since the Chargers unilaterally decided to remain silent for the first 14 days of training camp instead of replying in a timely fashion to the proposal we made on the eve of training camp on July 28th.

At this point, all we can do is continue to fight for a fair contract on behalf of our client, as we do for all of our clients. The Chargers can focus on trying to sway public opinion, but our focus will remain on our client and securing a contract for him that is fair and consistent with his draft position.

Bosa is the loser in this. He won't get his money and if he goes back in he won't get money and no guarantee that he won't get picked by San Diego again

People white knighting for Bosa are classic

Chargers need every dollar to market to the tards of San Diego City cause only they can vote on a new stadium not SD County

SD city is a lot of the beach areas and no one cares about a stadium when Windansea is across the street

Bosa will cave or go back in the draft and lose 17mil

Except he'd be a top 10 pick again. Every other team in the league has to be looking at the Chargers and shaking their heads. That's Jeff Loria shite.

Someone's numbers are fishy. Can't be slotted for 30 million and only be guaranteeing 14 or 17 - and then call that 85%

Based on the way they've handled this and prior negotiations I think the Chargers have fed a half truth into the half truth machine of public information.

I don't believe Bosa to be honest

I don't believe the Chargers either.

But the slot number is between 24-26. I don't know where it's been confirmed at 10% increase. It's just been projected.

I just think Bosa let his uncle and dads situation help get him to this point.

I'm not following you here. The salary due for the top picks is fixed. Are you saying they want to structure a backloaded deal and then release him so they don't have to pay him? Why even draft him if you don't like him?

Are you admitting that they are trying to short change him?
