This.

The demographics of those that play and watch baseball are rapidly changing. It's not cheap to play baseball these days. It is cheap to play football.

I still contend that at some point in my lifetime That free flowing sports(Basketball, Hockey, Soccer) will over take Baseball and Football which are essentially like 12 minutes of action expanded over 3 hours. They are just inferior games to watch.

I like hockey a lot but there a lot of stoppages in the NBA and soccer is just dull. I don't see why people would clamor to basketball and soccer if they aren't pleased with the lack of action in football and baseball.

Solid Troll attempt.

-- links selected from various sources to support the inflammatory point of view.
-- contradictory statements based on personal perception, instead of fact, e.g. "Baseball is now primarily a white trash sport." how is it you are an expert on the sport when apparently you avoid it because it is " this awful, boring sport."?
-- takes an elitist stance by offending two groups of people in one post and making gross generalizations.

Well done sir. You are obviously smarter, more interesting, and probably better looking than the 73million paid attendance for 2011 MLB games (not counting TV viewers) and the additional 5 million+ paid attendance for various Minor League games.

And yes, we are all white trash. And we're all mad.

i think white people love basketball just as much as every other demographic... they might not make up the pro ranks as much, but white people love to ball too

baseball has more to worry about from soccer than anything else. left field or left midfielder?

MLB is impossible to get into if you've never watched it and have no home town team. There are a ton of other things I could do instead of watching 1 game out of 50000

im happy with just college baseball.

I love baseball, but I don't have an MLB team, so I just don't watch it for the most part, even though I would like to.

I don't have an NFL team, but I still love watching any game that's on.

NBA I just don't like at all.

Depends on what you watch for, I guess. Fans of teams like Boston or San Antonio or Philadelphia aren't into the "look at me" type culture as much as quality, team-oriented basketball.

Plus, the culture of the NBA is changing with the continued success of international players/non-black minorities.

Absolutely true. It has been shown to be the favorite sport of people with analytic minds. Scientists, in particular, are drawn to game where numbers can truly tell the whole story.

Baseball is not soccer, so it has that going for it.

You know, I find it funny how people harp on the decline of popularity in boxing, baseball, and men's tennis in the U.S. but completely ignore the fact that the popularity of those sports are at an all-time high around the world. The Klitscho brothers have brought a ton of interest to boxing in Eastern Europe, Pacquiao's pretty much a god in the Phillipines, and the sport is huge in Great Britain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and a lot of other countries. Baseball's popularity had dramatically increased in Asia and the Latin-American countries. And a lot of people consider the current era as the Golden Age of men's tennis with Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer all playing at a very high level. Men's tennis is a lot more interesting now than it was dominated by Americans at the top like Sampras, Agassi, Courier, Chang, etc..

Have you tried adopting a team? Follow one with a favorite player or the closest ball club.

By far my favorite sport

Only because you have grown up watching it and its a part of your life, same as me. But I don't see how someone with no predispositions given a choice would choice to watch baseball or football over a free flowing sport. It just isn't as entertaining.

Like the last 3 minutes of an NBA game are 3 mintues of action over 20 minutes.

Hockey will never have mass appeal in the US because its a cold weather sport and just isn't going to latch on everywhere.
