That's a brutal assessment of Elway. How many Hall of Famers did he play with during his career with Denver (Terrell Davis would have been one if he had not been injured and provided the balance to help Elway get over the hump, of course)? Yet Elway took them to five Super Bowls and won the ones his team was remotely capable of winning.

You just can't talk about Elway "taking" his team to five superbowls with a straight face. TD carried the teams that won the Superbowl.

In Elway's third Superbowl appearance the Denver Broncos also had the #1 statistical defense in teh NFL.

Plus the AFC was also the weaker conference back in those days and making a superbowl from the AFC was a much easier task than going through the 49ers, Redskins, Giants, and Cowboys in the 80s and 90s

it's arguable that Elway had a ton of talent in his 2 wins

I never said this..............

Lets put it this way. Montana or Brady or Manning or Favre could NOT have done what Elway did for his 1st three sb' teams..........

What makes Graham the greatest, even if you were picking today? Arm? Pocket presence? Indomitable will?

This is a player from the 40's and you're saying if you were building a team in 2013 and had the pick of any NFL player ever, he would be the one. Why?

Because he was basically Babe Ruth of his time. He was part Favre (w/o all the picks), part Cunningham, a winner in the mold of Brady or Montana, a deep ball bomber like Bradshaw and a true leader of men like Ray Lewis (chuckle). All with the uncanny wacky playmaking of a tony romo (without the chokes)

Manning led those shitty Colts (post 2004) teams much further than Elway ever could have. He's my choice for the GOAT.

This thread is confusing as frick. It is riddled with shitty posts and incoherent logic.

Are you asking who would be the top pick overall as a prospect or after their career is over? If it is a prospect, then the answer is John Elway. He rates higher than any other college prospect. This whole Super Bowl talk is nonsense. I figured this thread was prior to their nfl careers. Otherwise, we are just asking who the GOAT is.

Obviously after seeing the career results. There's no sign of marinovich, JR, mandarich, or entman

That is kind of dumb then. No offense.

We have done the GOAT thread a million times.

It's a little different than GOAT, though obviously with a lot of answers they are picking the players that they believe are the greatest.

In 2013, you might be better served building a team around the most capable QB, even if you think that LT or Jim Brown are the GOAT.

And, just speaking for myself, I don't believe Elway to be the greatest player ever but he's the one that I would be most comfortable building my all time franchise around because he's a QB, has a rocket arm and has played in the modern era so he can deal with a (relatively) modern playbook and modern defenses.

All of the Elway talk reminds me of how people talk about LeBron in Cleveland.

To be clear, I think Elway and LeBron are in the top 3 in both of their professions.
