Go to college campuses around the rest of the world and you will not see massive stadium cathedrals..

Some prominent universities have connected Club systems at best.

The real question Captain Obvious wants to know: Are we "enlightened" in this regard? Obviously we are "unique"

So why did you wait until your second post to share your real motive for this thread?

Yup and all the money we have funneled into it has helped liberals spread their ideology all over campuses nationwide. Kind of crazy.

Was hoping for a natural conversation flow that eventually touched on it.

Some parts of the world have dudes shitting on the road from the sidewalk with no toilet paper.

I doubt he’s thinking about if he paid his alumni dues to the cricket club.

Ive said it many times...The type of ethos and pageantry you see in college football is most similar to european soccer. Thats where you find the cathedrals, bitter rivalries, and the rabid fanbases

Idk, maybe here on TD.. but, most Americans barely ever even leave their own state, much less understand the inner workings of the broader world.

With many players who would otherwise not be in college at all, let alone at a particular institution at which they have enrolled, but for the extracurricular athletics. And often at an institution having a large and dedicated portion of a fan base who never even went to college or the institution at issue.

Yes, it's basically just America (And That's A Good Thing)

I am liberal but have never understood the liberal obsession with hating on sports culture. Yeah, it's coded Team Red, whatever. It's also fricking awesome. I don't get why so many of my fellow liberals just cede ground on all the cool shite America has. I love my country and its 100,000-seat monuments to athletic valor and common ground and the fabulous prosperity that enabled their creation. We built that and it's fricking sweet. Sure, I'd like to find ways for the less fortunate to be better off, and if you want to be reductive, we spend a lot of money on this specific form of entertainment instead of spending it on the poor. But we can have both, so who cares? Let's have both. It's just asinine to watch the bickering sometimes, like two kids arguing over who should get the same half of a pie when we could just have both halves. We can just do both! Dreaming "big" like that is what made this country the greatest country that's ever existed and ever will exist.

Exactly. It’s not like Europe and most of the rest of the world don’t have sports leagues that have equally enthusiastic followings. You could also title a thread “Big time pro/club soccer is mostly just a thing in the rest of the world”.

Funneling $ into sports has helped distract white alumni from what’s happening on the campus. Tate at LSU was reducing whites as a % and in total numbers even while bringing in record quantities of freshmen classes, but most posters on the rant were still defending him because he loved sports and didn’t get in the way of hiring head coaches by forcing diversity hires like most expected when he was hired.

In fall of 2020 whites were 64.8% of the incoming freshmen class enrollees with blacks at 16.8% (4,335 & 1,122 of the 6,690 total of the incoming freshmen class), and In fall of 2020 white undergraduates were at 67.1% of the total undergraduates on campus with blacks at 14.7%. (16,837 & 3,682 of 25,088 total undergraduates on campus).

By Tate’s last 100% controlled freshman class in fall of 2025 whites had dropped to 48.6% of the incoming freshmen class enrollees with blacks at 28.4% (3,995 & 2,331 of the 8,212 total of the incoming freshmen class), and this fall of 2026 white undergraduates have dropped to 52.8% of the total undergraduates on campus with blacks at 24.2%. (15,663 & 7,178 of 29,648 total undergraduates on campus).

Tate increased total undergraduates by over 4,500 while not just decreasing the % of white undergraduates on campus but also decreasing the total number of white incoming freshmen and white undergraduates on campus, but he loved sports so not racist and was doing a great job according to many white alumni and fans…
